ANZAC Day

Ceremonies

Tradition, shared values, recognition of sacrifice and a common history are all building blocks of a cohesive nation.  Each year we come together as Australians to acknowledge the massive contribution our servicemen and women have made throughout our nationhood. We honor and respect those who gave their lives in defense of Australia and our allies and reflect on the horrors of war.

This year will be a significantly different ANZAC day as social distancing makes it difficult to come together.  The dawn services, RSL lunches, ANZAC day football and school services will not occur.  Instead the Australian War Memorial will be hosting a private dawn ceremony which will be streamed live on the ABC from 5:00am on Saturday.

An organisation called Soldier On has invited all Australians and New Zealanders to participate in a social movement called 'Driveway at Dawn."  They invite us to stand in our driveways at 5:55am on ANZAC day as a show of respect for our servicemen and women both past and present.

An app has been released and is available for both  Android and Apple.  It features a virtual candle and synchronised playing of The Last Post at precisely 6am so we can virtually stand side-by-side to show our respect as a nation.
