It was a superb autumn day last Wednesday 21 March when an impressive number of prospective families visited the Secondary School for open day. The grounds looked glorious in the morning sunshine, the buildings were warm and inviting and the classrooms interesting and inspiring learning spaces, alive with activity.
Our visitors arrived through both the Blackhall and Kalimna gates from 9am and were directed to the registration desk to collect a School prospectus and map of the campus and to join a teacher guide. Rolling tours kicked off at 9.15am and visitors had the opportunity to look in on a diverse range of year levels and subjects: both June’s and Kat’s Year 7 English; Year 8 Drama with Kate and Mark and French with Linda; Year 9 Science with Louie and a game of basketball with Kris; Matt had a Year 10 Media class and Tash, Year 10 Music; the DP was well represented by Psychology with Sophie, Maths with Donal and History with Mary Ann; and visitors got to look in on VCE classes of Biology with Victor, Specialist Maths with Helen and Physical Education theory with Beth.
At 10.15am we gathered in the library to listen an address by Marilyn, followed by questions from the floor. Visitors were interested in the School’s homework policy, the gender balance, many aspects of the Diploma Programme, languages, learning support, camps and sport.
A delicious morning tea was offered afterwards and our visitors were able to mingle and chat with staff and current parents over coffee and a pastry (or an apple).
It was exciting to see some Arlington families visiting BK for the first time. Next term we will be inviting Arlington families to visit the Secondary School to see us in action and meet our amazing staff.
Our first open day for 2018 was a big success and I felt – as I’m sure all staff did – very proud and indeed privileged to be part of this amazing school. Prospective parents seemed very impressed with our excellent programs and passionate staff and left to seriously consider what a Preshil IB education can offer their child. Nerel, our Registrar, has since received several applications for 2019 and beyond.
THANK YOU to all involved but particularly our wonderful current parents who came along to help welcome our visitors and share their own stories.
After settling in well to the 2018 academic year, students, staff and families have made it through a very busy Term One and we are all looking forward to the holidays.
Have a safe and relaxing break and take advantage of the beautiful autumn weather. We look forward to seeing students return on Tuesday 17 April, refreshed and ready for the start of Term Two.
