College Magpies are 2019 HKJFA premiers defeating Coleraine by 59 points in a great 4 quarter effort in last Friday’s Grand Final.
That makes it 4 Under 16 premierships in a row and 3 for coach Pat Sherlock.
Connor Hunter was awarded the best on ground medal by the umpires - a remarkable story itself!

Girls' Hockey Report
In what could be the Grand Final preview, the College Strikers faced Coleraine Black on Friday night. The first half was a close contest with Coleraine really pressing the College backline. Emily McNaugton made couple of excellent saves to keep the College girls on top. Some brilliance from Hannah Russell off the short corner battery gave the College girls the upper hand. Phoebe Russell, Nina Pern and Gracie Austin also scored. In the end the College girls were too strong defeating Coleraine 6-2.
Better Players: Hannah Russell, Chloe Andersen, Ruby Austin and Chloe Russell.
Once again, the B Grade Blades and Scorchers could not be separated on the scoreboard with 1-1 draw the final score. The Scorchers made the brave move to play without a goalie and young Chloe Baker did a wonderful job on the last line of defence.
The Blades looked like they had the game under control after scoring from a short corner but credit to the Scorchers who equalized late in the second half. The result means the Scorchers have now secured the double chance finishing in second spot.
Better Players: Jordy Brown, Kate Jessop, Oliva Reid and Rosie Dopheide.

Under 16 and Men's Hockey
The final round of hockey before finals was played last weekend.
All our under 16 teams performed well and showed they will be ready for their finals encounters.
College Red met top-of-the-table Coleraine Black and led 3-1 at half time after a very strong first half. Eren Zehir (2) and Charley Falla-Jones had scored and the team had played some fine fast-flowing hockey. They were unable to maintain their pace in the second half and conceded three goals; however, they nearly snatched an equaliser in the final minute. This game should give the team confidence as their best was shown to be very competitive.
College Blue scored an 8-0 victory over Monivae. Jack Austin (3), Harry Austin (2), Jake Andersen, Will Merrin and Jack Wall were the scorers as the forward line clicked into gear particularly in the second half. Some effective team-play characterised the win and Millie Davidson, Will Merrin and (in the second half) Jack Wall were amongst those who caught the eye.
College Gold warmed up for the semi-finals with a 10-1 victory over Coleraine Red. Mrs Winter Cooke reports:
Goal scorers were Isaac Hocking(4) Euan Sutherland (3), Milo Cooper, Clancy Munro and Lachie Rees. Our forward line combined well with Alyssa Hocking, Millie Howells and Jorja Hermon working well as half backs. Owen Priestley and Milo Cooper provided valuable speed on our wings, creating opportunities in the circle.
Gold has deservedly finished second on the ladder and enjoys the benefits of the
double chance.
At senior level, the Open team recorded an excellent 6-0 victory over Coleraine Rams, despite three regular defenders being unavailable. The boys worked very well together and several took on unfamiliar roles. Particular thanks and congratulations to Jake Andersen, who again stepped up from Under 16 and did so very well, performing strongly at half-back. Eren Zehir also showed strength in the other half-back role. Ferg Roberts and James Sutherland, as full-backs, worked together with confidence and Captain Reagan Simons and Tane Nelson teamed very well up forward. Goal-scorers were Reagan (3), Tane, Dougal Sweeney and Ralph Carolan.
All four teams are in good shape heading into the finals.
