Year 8 Camp
Michelle O’Brien
Year 8 Level Coordinator
Early this term, 124 Year 8 students headed off to The Summit Camp in Trafalgar. Accompanied by eleven staff members , the enthusiastic group were keen to head out of the city and toward new challenges!
Year 8 Camp provides an exciting opportunity for all the students to engage with their year level peers, whilst challenging themselves via adventure and outdoor experiences. Through this, the students can build on their teamwork and communication skills as well as embrace the need for persistence, determination and personal responsibility.
This year we experienced a variety of activities including the Giant Swing (the highest in Victoria!!), High Wire Challenge, Laser Skirmish, Flying Fox, Leap of Faith, Snakes and Nails and our all time favourite - the Monster Mudcourse. As well as these activities, there was also a tank. Yes, really, there was a tank.
A quick survey of the students revealed that their favourite activities on camp were: the dance party on the first night
the Monster Mudcourse
Hanging out in the cabin
the Giant Swing
handling the snake
the bus ride
Movie Night
facing their fears and of course...
THE TANK!
Thanks to all students for their sense of adventure, their enthusiasm for all the activities and their willingness get to know new people. A big thank you to the wonderful staff who came along on the camp: Kenneth Ch’ng, Cathie Cowcher, Jennie Easson, Barbara Moss, Tayler Roberts, Alex Robinson, Grace Rennie, Jacqui Scott, Craig Van der Valk and Jarrod Warmington.
