SIS Cross Country Carnival

What a wet cold day we had at the SIS Cross Country Carnival at Baxter Park on Tuesday 28 May. We had a small squad of 55 students take on the 3 km or 4 km courses. The rain made the courses difficult, with muddy patches and puddles to overcome, however our students did not let the terrain and weather hold them back.

We had some success on the day with our Junior Girls winning the Junior Pennant. A special mention to the students below who performed exceptionally well :

Callen Montgomery 11th Place

Natashar Dimitrovska 2nd Place

Sarah Mortensen 3rd Place

Catherine Pavlidakis 6th Place

Emily Ware-Drakeford 10th Place

Keilen Arias-Senel 14th place

Holly Kurtbegovi 7th Place

Shamiso Sibanda 8th Place

Anahit Kirakosian 10th Place

Overall Nazareth finished in 7th Place. It was disappointing that Nazareth did not fill 3 age groups due to students not wanting to run, which is a real shame. Those students who were dedicated and ran for the school with pride, in very harsh conditions, still greeted me with a smile at the finish line which was great to see.

A huge thank you to the staff who supported our students at the event and at the training sessions leading up to the carnival - Mr John Brenton, Ms Jackie Kol, Mr Michael Dunstan, Ms Laura Langmead, Mr Chase Kelso, Ms Donna Watts, Mr Adam Ferraro and Mr Brendan McAleer.  Your help was invaluable, especially on the day with the difficult conditions.

  • Adrian Belevski
  • Jonel Jimenez
  • Evan Kakolyris
  • Alex Markovitch
  • Anthony Phung
  • Ronan Searle
  • Bryan Truong
  • Christian Vormwald
  • Nikola Vukosavljevic
  • Samuel Watkinson-Garlick

Well done boys – you did Nazareth proud!

Junior Boys Volleyball

I would like to congratulate the following students on the way they represented Nazareth College in the Junior Boys Volleyball team:

Jerrod Batallones, Tim Bui, Malcolm Kilfoyle, Dillon Lim, Regan Lim, Tim Malet, Andrya Oshla, Derick Truong and Damon Weibgen.

The team only lost one game out of 4 rounds and we wait with anticipation to see if they finish on top of the ladder. The boys were very supportive of each other and grew in confidence as the weeks went by. Congratulations to everyone on a great team effort.

Intermediate Girls Soccer

It was great to see our Intermediate Girls bond so well over the course of the four games and despite some narrow defeats. They were very supportive of each other and really enjoyed playing as a team.

A special mention to Bright Ten who pulled off many saves in goals, Nancy Jada who dealt very well with many situations as a centre back and Aleksia Alavanja who scored some quality goals.

We had a successful year in Intermediate Boys Football and our performances continued to improve throughout the season. We had students from Years 9 and 10 represent Nazareth College.

Our Most Valuable Player award was won by Dante Ferraro. He was very well supported by Aidan Guarnaccia, Jarrel Sharma and Jason Yakub.  Next year we hope to continue to develop our skills and improve on our efforts.

Year 7 and 8 v Carwatha College

In our recent game against Carwatha College the students were able to gain some more valuable experience against much older students. Despite the heavy defeat, 18 students were able to get a game and enjoy the experience of playing together.

European Cup visits Nazareth College

Staff and students were delighted last week when former FIFA referee Gerry Connolly brought in his replica of the European and World Cup. Gerry gave a very insightful talk to the students on life as a referee, the games he has officiated and the players he has seen play. Staff and students were very grateful for the opportunity to be able to have their photos taken and ask Gerry plenty of questions.
