Faith and Wellbeing Assistant Principal's Report

Mass for Social Justice and St Vincent de Paul Society
On Thursday 6 June 2019 we celebrated the Mass for Social Justice. We are very grateful to Fr Kevin Dillon for generously coming to celebrate this Mass with us. At the end of Mass a cake was brought out and the Year 9 Music Class sang a fantastic song dedicated to Fr Dillon. This was in recognition of Fr Dillon, commemorating on 1 June 2019, the 50th Anniversary of his Priestly Ordination. We congratulate Fr Dillon on 50 years of making a gift of himself to serve God and His Church in the Ordained Priesthood. He has touched the hearts of many people in a variety of roles and ministry with the Archdiocese of Melbourne. We are most grateful we have been blessed to have him in our community over the last few years, and as he continues to serve as a Chaplain and also the Chair of the Canonical Administrators.
At this Mass we were also blessed to hear James Tudehope from the St Gerard’s St Vincent de Paul Society speak to the students and share gratitude to the College Community for our generosity, as well as sharing the need for a Soup Kitchen in the Dandenong area and inviting Nazareth to be a part of this. The beginning of a Soup Kitchen is something the school is excited about and we look forward to working on this.
In other news the College St Vincent de Paul Conference is also looking into working with St Anthony’s Primary School in Noble Park to support their weekly tutoring program on Tuesdays after school. This will be a great opportunity for us to serve the younger students in our area.
Soup Kitchen
On Monday 3 June 2019, Caitlin Williams, Georgina Karras, Kavini Gunathilaka, Kelly Jian, Kimberley Stapleton and Bhavishya Muralidhara attended the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen and assisted the Sisters with meal preparation, service and cleaning up the kitchen at the end of the process. It was an enjoyable evening for all and a blessing to be able to assist the Sisters in their ministry to men in need in Melbourne. As we continue to offer this throughout the year, we hope more students and staff will be able to take up this wonderful opportunity to put our faith into action and serve those in need.
Thursday Mass
A reminder there is Mass every Thursday in the Chapel at 8.10 am. All students and their families are welcome. This is a great way to start the day.
Year 12 Formal
The Year 12 students will take some time out from their busy year of studies for one of the highlights of the year when they attend the Year 12 Formal at The Grand on Princes on Thursday 20 June 2019. We look forward to seeing our students dress up for this night of celebrating with their Year 12 cohort.
End of Term
As we move towards the end of term it is a time for our students to continue to work hard, but can also be a time where students may suffer a little from some anxiety and get a little tired with exams approaching and work tasks due. It is important that students keep working hard, make time for their revision, but also get the sleep and rest that is needed. If students are finding things particularly difficult please contact their Pastoral Teacher or Head of House so we can assist in any way possible. Likewise, if there are any issues or challenges outside of school that are impacting on your child’s wellbeing, or challenges at school that we are not aware of, please contact us at the College so we can assist.
