Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians

I would like to devote my reflection on some significant events that the Nazareth Community has recently participated in and celebrated.  We are all the more rich and appreciative, and hope that such acts inspire others to ‘make a difference’.

Premier’s VCE Awards

Firstly, this past week we saw Ashleigh Pereira receive the Premier’s VCE Award for a perfect score of 50 in Food Studies.  Ashleigh was one of many students throughout Victoria who were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements in the 2018 VCE program.

I congratulate her and her family, together with Ms Christine Vaughan (Learning Leader Arts and Technology) and the other Food Technology teachers, as well as Mrs Patsy Furlong for their care, inspiration and encouragement in ensuring that Ashleigh achieved her very best.

Social Justice Mass and Soup Kitchen

Secondly, our students and families are truly remarkable when it comes to supporting others.

This past week saw all our fundraising efforts come to fruition when we celebrated the Social Justice Mass.  It was attended by distinguished guests from the St Vincent de Paul Conference.  This is an annual event when the Nazareth St Vincent de Paul students (50+ members, known as  Vinnies) present food parcels as well as clothing to the St Vincent de Paul central office, which are then distributed amongst those who are most in need.

Sincere thanks go to Ms Lisa Douglass for her involvement in and coordination of the Vinnies component of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Equally, I thank and acknowledge the students and staff who attend Soup Kitchen in North Fitzroy on a weekly basis.

The Sisters of Charity serve a multitude of meals each week and it is such a privilege to be part of this program.  Not only do we assist others, but these people inspire us through their conversation and appreciation.

Father Kevin Dillon

On behalf of the entire Nazareth Community and all other associated parishes, we congratulate Father Kevin Dillon on 50 years as a Priest.

Father Kevin has a distinguished career and, in the past three years, has played an active role at Nazareth College as one of its Canonical priests and, as the President of the Canonical Administrators, on the College Board.

Congratulations Father Kevin on such an outstanding achievement.

Nazareth Crucifix

In concluding, I would like to highlight our new crucifix situated at the entrance of our College grounds.

This is a reminder to all about what we stand for.  We are a Catholic Coeducational College and we are inspired by the family of Jesus and the scriptures.  We, as a Community, are inspired by Jesus’ life and we hope that we can emulate it through our actions.

We also hope to continue to inspire through our Faith, Wisdom and Knowledge.
