SENIOR NEWS

Farewell Class of 2017

Reflection by Mrs Andrews

Morning of October 25, all felt relatively calm, each year I arrive, I never know what to expect. As I approached the senior foyer, I saw in the distance, the senior school office had been lovingly decorated. Toilet paper streamers, glad wrapped chairs and coffee mugs with a message on my desk from the class of 2017.

After chasing toilet paper around the room and cleaning it up before staff arrived, I then started to hear the arrival of some students, after photo’s I  ushered a devil and an angel down to the PAC where breakfast was going to be served.

As I was leaving the senior centre I saw Mr Doherty arrive, he opened his office door I heard a laugh,  so went to investigate, only to find his office filled with cups of water all over the floor. He clambered between the cups so I could take a photo then for the next 15 minutes we sat on the floor reminiscing about the class of 2017 and emptying the water into a bucket.

We then decided to check the other offices. Amadeo’s office had been targeted, this time with balloons, toilet paper and gladwrap, so another clean up. Mr Harms office was not, so we suspected he may have been involved in some way.

I then headed down to the PAC where by now most students had arrived. We enjoyed a breakfast which Lisa Carroll, Suzie Letty, Phil Holt had organised along with a number of staff assisting with the cooking. For the first time the breakfast was indoors. This year the College Council had purchased round fold away tables after a submission from the valedictory planning committee. A group of captains had decorated the PAC up as a space theme the night before.

The next 3 hours the College Captains Cody Green and Karabo Tlakotsi, led the way with the assembly, including a photo presentation of students when they were in prep, a Khahootz a video of the real captains, truth and lie game, music presentations by Dave L’uillier, Michael Ferdinand, and Cody Ballantyne, snapshot of vcal through the year and some funny awards.

At 11.30 the students started to say their farewells, Chloe Chambers the environmental captain handed out some succulents and lavender arrangements that she had prepared for the students. We then left to get prepared for the Valedictory dinner and awards evening at the Frankston Arts centre.

The evening was attended by approximately 300 people.  The year 12’s were presented with Certificates of Completion followed by dinner then the Special Awards. The formal part of the evening concluded at 9.00pm, followed by dancing.

Huge thank you to special guests, staff, students, families and invited guests for making the night a huge success.
