ANNUAL WINTER CONCERT

As we head towards the Annual Winter Concert (27 August) things are hotting up in the Music Department. Tickets are available through both the Monash University website and the McKinnon Secondary College website. Please check the link at the bottom of this article.

Dates for examinations for most instruments have been released. Students need to check the list in the Music Centre.

PERCUSSION NEWS

McKinnon Secondary College was delighted to have hosted the highly acclaimed Hiroshima Junior Marimba Ensemble. The group has been touring internationally and have up to 170 concerts per year. The group followed the performance given at McKinnon with a concert for peace at Deakin Edge performance space in Federation Square. Students were delighted by the high level of professionalism and enthusiasm demonstrated in this concert.  

 

 

 

Congratulations to all percussion students demonstrated outstanding skills at their concert Monday 12 August, 2013. It was fantastic to see the students performing on all aspects of the percussion instruments. Parents and friends were impressed by the level of control the students demonstrated. Thank you to Mr Golovko for his organization of both this and the Hiroshima Junior Marimba Ensemble concert.

 

 

RECENT PERFORMANCES

It was fantastic to see Ovenden Band performing at the Victorian School Music Festival at Deakin Edge, Federation Square on Thursday 15 August. The students performed to a very high standard and received great feedback on improving their repertoire. 

 

Munch then Music was held on Friday 16 August. Congratulations to Valentina Bydanova, Will Hardy, James Hardy, Morgan Dooley-Axup, Rachel Walker, Lena Zhan, Paulina Vayenas, Samantha Andrew, Immy Chuah, Michael Aguilera and Ruby Willis for their outstanding performances. Thank you also to Ash Jansen for his emcee work and Mr Kurowski for his organization of this concert series.

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES

Over the next seven weeks the Music Department will be providing a great deal of music for a large variety of community and school events. The following is where students will be over the next few weeks. 

 

  • August 21 - Wind Quintet and vocal students performing for Ormond Probus Club at the Bentleigh Club
  • August 25 - Clarinet Choir performing for the Thistlelonians Reunion
  • August 27 - Winter Concert Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University
  • August 31 - Orchestra Competing at Royal SouthStreet Eistedfodd in Ballarat
  • September 5 - Symphonic Wind Competing at Royal SouthStreet Eistedfodd in Ballarat

WINTER CONCERT TICKETS

The Winter Concert, or Annual Concert, is a major display of the large ensembles within the school. This formal event will be held at 7:30 pm, Tuesday 27 August at the Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University. Tickets (Adults $20, Concession $15) are on sale from Monash University.
