8TH VIC SRC CONGRESS

Our Junior School Council President and Deputy President, Aristotle Otis and Hanna Gutkin (both Year 9), recently represented McKinnon at the VicSRC Congress, held at Mt Evelyn on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 August. The VicSRC is the organization that supports and promotes the activities of Student Representative Councils in schools throughout Victoria.

Over 70 students attended and participated in the Congress, with many ideas discussed and debated. Some of the topics investigated included: Government funding of state and private schools; reviewing current DEECD and VCAA reporting practices with the aim of improving student feedback; and improving student education on life after school.

Elections for the 2013-2014 VicSRC Executive Committee were also held. Candidates gave speeches to the Congress outlining their ideas to promote student participation and the election was managed by the Victorian Electoral Commission. Warm congratulations to Aristotle upon his election to the VicSRC Executive. Both Aristotle and Hanna should be congratulated for the commitment they have shown to student representation, both at McKinnon and at a state level.
