The students have had an amazing time enjoying the tastes of Italy, with our lovely harvest of potatoes, tomatoes and fresh herbs. We have created the ever-popular gnocchi menu consisting of:
Our Year 3 students made the gnocchi with sauces, whilst the older grades made the entire menu. Following are some of the short reflections written by our students.
Everyone enjoyed cooking in the kitchen today. We made amazing potato gnocchi and an awesome salad. The potato gnocchi had two different sauces, butter and sage and raw tomato sauce. The salad was delicious, but the chilli was a bit too spicy. Everyone who ate it had steam coming out of their ears and fire out of their mouth.
Everyone in our class liked the gnocchi but not the salad, if we were to improve the salad I would get rid of the chilli that burnt our tongue.

Today, 6B had an Italian based menu. We made gnocchi, two Italian sauces and the salad of the imagination! It was a blast making the sauces; especially the butter and sage sauce. We had two groups making the gnocchi, and they had to make another batter for the next class. Our group created the two sauces, butter and sage and raw tomato. It was quite easy to make the raw tomato and the butter and sage sauces. We had Mr. O Brien as our teacher for the kitchen session. It was really fun!

Interesting fact: Gnocchi dough can be made from semolina flour, potatoes, cornmeal or even bread crumbs. Eggs or cheese may be added and gnocchi may be poached, baked, fried or poached and baked. Chopped Spinach is also a popular ingredient.
This week the class cooked a beautiful Italian menu of potato gnocchi, a salad with no boundaries; the salad of the imagination, and a butter and sage sauce as well as a raw tomato and basil sauce. The groups worked together to bring out these marvellous dishes, hopefully they taste as good as they look.
