Communicating with Clarity and Precision
The Administration Team put the spotlight on rewarding students who communicate with clarity and precision when they come into the office.
We have been pleased to see many students who come to the office displaying wonderful manners, waiting patiently for us and communicating with clarity and precision.
The following students have received a nomination from the office for the Habits of Mind Spotlight Award of Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision:
Myall 5R - When he came to the office to let us know about the Play leaders Parachute
Boon 2S - Always using his manners when visiting the office and waiting patiently
Beth 5R - Communicating with the maintenance man about the broken door in the hall
Aaron PA - When he brought his friend to sickbay and explained clearly that she was hurt.
Samuel PB - Waiting patiently to speak to us and communicating with clarity while handing in lost property
We will continue to focus on this Habit of Mind and to educate students on the correct processes to follow when coming into the office. Quite often, students are not sure who they need to speak to and therefore direct all queries to the office staff. To assist with this the office will create a visual ‘communication chart’ that the students can refer to.
Some of the strategies communicated to students this term include:
- If the office member is talking to someone else, wait until they finish
- Stop and think about what it is you need to say before you start talking
- Communicate your message in a clear, calm and precise way
- Follow correct procedures before coming into the office-have you seen a yard duty teacher first?
