A changing landscape

This week we have continued to receive excellent support and understanding from our extended College community. Our staff had very productive meetings and collaboration today to further enhance our approach to remote learning.

Many of our parents would be used to accessing online learning materials through study at tertiary level. It is certainly much more of a challenge for schools given our learning model is based on face to face attendance. However, the efforts of our students, staff and parents to work collaboratively in this new remote space have been incredible. In the coming weeks, we will make mistakes and will learn from those mistakes. That is what genuine learning is all about.

Particularly pertinent for senior students are questions around assessment. This is new territory for schools around the world and we will work with authorities to provide clarity as soon as possible. Our Year 12 students have been extraordinarily understanding over the past few weeks. It is certainly not the final-year experience any of us had anticipated.

We have written separately to year 12 students and some of the messages are equally applicable to students in other year levels.

  1. We know you are worried. While we recognise we are facing an unprecedented situation, we want to assure you that you will be able to get a WACE certificate this year, and that your studies will facilitate access to university, further education and employment, as they have for students in the past.
  2. Keep learning, do your assessments as advised by the College, make progress on your major projects where you can and, most importantly, look after yourself, whether you are at school or at home. Reach out to family, friends and your teachers if you need to.
  3. If you are unwell, the College will have provisions in place to ensure that you are not disadvantaged.

We look forward to continuing regular updates and best wishes and thank you to all members of our College community.
