OLIVER

We were delighted to receive an Outstanding Award in the Secondary Musicals for Oliver from the adjudicators at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. This is a wonderful result for us and we are so proud of all of the cast and crew. Well done!

Senior Drama Club

The Senior Drama Club performed at La Salle College in the second week of Term 3. They did an excellent job and everyone really wanted to know what was going on next in their play. I commend the students on their wonderful portrayal. The adjudicator was very impressed with their dramatic timing and tension and their vocal clarity and characterisation.

Both the Junior and Senior Drama Clubs are very busy rehearsing for our Drama Night on 5 September. Our audience will see two full one-act plays and we are hoping for a full house so that the casts will be ready for the Youthfest competition the following week. Information will be available soon in regards to tickets for this night.

Music

The St Norbert College Guitar Ensemble, directed by Mr Don Neander, performed on Friday 27 July at Lumen Christi College in the Instrumental Ensembles (Acoustic Classical Guitar) section of the Performing Arts Festival. A huge congratulations to the students of the Guitar Ensemble who were awarded a Certificate of Excellence for their performance.

The following week of the festival was dedicated to contemporary bands and both our Year 11 Certificate II and Year 12 Certificate III bands played their hearts out on Thursday 2 August at Corpus Christi College. Always a spectacular display of talent with live sound, lighting and smoke machines, both bands performed admirably and walked away with very positive responses from the adjudicator with mainly 'excellent' and 'very good' grades throughout. Well done to the Skinny Elephants, Electric Dissent and the Guitar Ensemble for getting us off to a great start in the Festival.

The incredible efforts of our vocalists have also continued over the last two weeks and congratulations go to the following students who represented the College in solo performances:

  • Isabella Giuffre
  • Kira Willis
  • Darcy Eyre
  • Jayde Blogna
  • Jaslina Pereira
  • Blake Jenkins
  • Siena Kelly
  • Ira Sanchez
  • Ariannah Tilli
  • Alexis Joseph
  • Nyssa Coutinho
  • Ira Sanchez and Siena Kelly (Duet)

In addition to this, Blake and Cooper Jenkins have received an Outstanding Award for Secondary Vocal Duet in the Instrumental Solo/Duet section of the Festival.

Congratulations again to all of these students for their time and dedication to music and the performing arts.

Mr C Beins (Head of Learning Area – The Arts)
