Stephanie Alexander Kitchen
Welcome back to SAKG and thank you to all of our families for your continued support in our wonderful program for 2019! Hopefully by now the children have settled well into their routines and are ready for some exciting cooking and gardening. After our gastronomical journey of "Food around the world" last year, we're going back to basics, where our theme this year will be "Let's celebrate fruit and vegetables". We'll be discussing our hero fruit or vegetable of the menu in a little more depth and I'll be asking the students, "Is it a fruit, or is it a vegetable?" This theme will enable us to bring the garden to the kitchen to keep the students interested and knowledgeable when it comes to growing and harvesting.
As many of you may be aware, Alba has now taken a position within the Integration team and we now have Liz Scott as our Stephanie Alexander Garden Specialist. Liz will be guiding our Year 2 students through the garden program where they will enjoy their classes weekly. If anyone would like to learn more about gardening or is a passionate gardener at home, Liz would love more volunteers to keep our garden looking amazing as well as helping out our Year 2 class. Please let Liz or myself know if you would like to volunteer in either the kitchen or garden.
Next Wednesday we open our doors to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation team. They will hold a special training day in our kitchen and garden for other schools' SAKG specialists. This will be an exciting day of learning for both me and Liz, and also a privilege to be chosen to host this day!
So, to kick off 2019 in the kitchen the menu will be as follows:
