Year 11 ATAR Geography Fieldwork

On Monday 6 May Year 11 Geography students travelled to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre in Mundaring to investigate the impact of bushfires on our environment.

The students did a case study of the high intensity Parkerville fire of 2014 that impacted severely on both the natural and built environment.

They also examined different areas of bush that had experienced low intensity prescribed burns and evaluated the impact of these fires on the natural environment.

Finally the students did an assessment of the built environment to determine how fire safe the area is and looked at preparation, mitigation and prevention strategies that could be implemented.

Thank you to Mrs Kalo Bell who assisted with her expertise on the day.

A very productive day – well done.

Year 11 and 12 Examinations

The Semester One Year 11 and 12 Examination timetable has been released to students via the Documents tab in SEQTA. The examinations will be held from Monday 27 May to Friday 7 June. Students will receive a personalised examination timetable next week that they are required to bring to each examination. This replicates the process required for the WACE examinations held at the end of Year 12.

All examinations, except for languages and Music will be held in the lower A Block classrooms. Languages and Music will be conducted in the Learning Enrichment Centre. Students with special arrangements for their examinations are asked to confirm these with Mr Stuart Massey, Co-ordinator of Learning Enrichment prior to the examinations.

Year 12 Coaching

The Year 12 Coaching program began last week with the majority of students having completed their first coaching session. The feedback has been positive with students embracing the opportunity to speak about their academic goals. The clear focus of the coaching program has assisted students to clarify strategies they can implement to assist themselves to achieve their nominated goals.

Students and parents can view their goals in SEQTA via the Goals tab. These goals will become the reference point for the second coaching session, with students asked to reflect on their progress prior to the next meeting. Parents are also able to engage with their son/daughter about the goals and discuss any specific support they can provide to enhance the learning opportunities for their child.

The student presentation and list of coaches is available for viewing in the Documents tab in SEQTA.

Year 7 & 9 NAPLAN

NAPLAN is commencing for Year 7 & 9 students Week 13, Tuesday 14 – Friday 17 May.

If a student misses a test on a particular day, they will be able to catch up the following day and go into week 14 if need be. Please note, that no student will be sitting more than one test per day.

As all testing is now online, please ensure your child has installed the Locked Down Browser App.

Practice online tests can be found at the NAPLAN Public demonstration site.

Please note, that headphones are essential and must be supplied by the student and checked beforehand. As the locked down browser is designed to shut other functions down once in the test, students must check that their sound is not muted and at an audible range. The recommended sound level is ¾.

If a student doesn’t have headphones, they must seek out their ADP prior to testing and a replacement cost will incur.

If you have any further queries please contact either Aaron.Peters@cewa.edu.au (Assistant Deputy Principal Year 7) or Cameron.Haines@cewa.edu.au (Assistant Deputy Principal Year 9)

Campion House Lap-A-Thon

Congratulations to the students of Campion House who participated in their annual Lap-A-Thon fundraising event on Thursday 9 May. The money raised will support LifeLink, a Catholic fundraising and promotional arm which supports and assists the work of social service agencies established by the Archdiocese of Perth. Campion students and staff were encouraged to run or walk as many laps of the College football field as they could in 30 minutes. While students participated in the Lap-A-Thon, they were asked to think about those in neighboring communities who are in need of practical care and assistance, encouraging Campion students to be ‘men and women for others’.

Thank you to our Campion families and friends for your ongoing support and generosity toward such a successful and meaningful event on the Campion calendar. Students should hand in their donations to their Homeroom leaders over the coming week.

We look forward to announcing our overall total raised!
