Today we celebrated a Mass dedicated to all our wonderful Mothers.

Thank you to Miss Dernie, Mrs Fontaine, Mrs Lumley and the Year 4 students for preparing the liturgy. A special thank you to Fr Greg Donovan for sharing God's blessings with our community.

A great sense of community was felt having our Mums gather together for Mass and morning tea. Those Mums who could not come along today, were also in our thoughts!

We wish all of our mums a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday and hope that they are surrounded by family and friends who show them how grateful they are for their unconditional love. We also keep a special prayer in our hearts for the families for whom Mothers’ Day may be challenging and difficult.

Last night our Kindy parents participated in an informative and interactive workshop presented by Sue Beurteaux, an Occupational Therapist. Sue provided a wonderful insight into how children learn and in particular why setting up strong foundation skills in the home and school are imperative and also important factors in fine motor and learning outcomes.

We look forward to seeing parents back for part two, next Thursday 16 May at 6:30pm in the MacKillop Room. Don't forget to bring your homework task along!

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment of all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The assessments will be conducted throughout Week 3 and 4 of this term.

Assessments are a normal part of the teaching and learning cycle so there is no need for students to feel under added pressure during NAPLAN. Year 3 and 5 classroom teachers have spent time with their students teaching them how to navigate the screen when using the new Online assessments. We encourage all students to do their personal best, read questions carefully and to check over their work.

Scribblers Writers Festival

Year 4 students attended the Scribblers Writers Festival at Scotch College on Wednesday.

During the day, they enjoyed listening to authors including Kristy Burne, Matt Stanton and Megan McDonald. Each author shared their writing journey and inspired the students in different ways. After each session, the students were given the opportunity to meet the authors and have their books signed.

Reflections of the day:

I was inspired by Matt Stanton because he was entertaining. We got to listen to him read a passage from his book ‘Funny Kid’ and he drew an illustration for us. Isabella Stewart 4B
I enjoyed listening to Kristy Burne because she is so talented. She is a scientist and an author and writes non-fiction books. She writes about science facts I would never have known! Lydia Defrancesco 4G

The students really enjoyed the excursion and it has inspired them to create their own books in the future. The Scribblers Writers Festival is open to families over the weekend, we certainly recommend it!

Sport Update

What a great start! Student engagement in Physical Education lessons and their eagerness to play and improve is impressive.

Next week our Year 5 and 6 students will begin the IPSHA winter sports competition when we host Loreto Nedlands Primary on Thursday afternoon. I am looking forward to seeing our students in action and representing the school with pride.

Five of our Primary Students participated in the Swimming WA Long Course State Championships over the school holidays. They produced some amazing personal best times and were awarded medals for their magnificent efforts. Some of their highlights are provided below:

I hope everyone has had a great second week back at school and that your children have adjusted happily to the school routine. It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces in classrooms and in the playground. If you have any concerns about your child please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available at school each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and also in the morning every Thursday. You’re very welcome to pop into my office in the primary quadrangle, give me a call or send an email.

Parking Protocols

Please remember that the car park outside of the Pre-Primary playground is strictly for the use of Pre-Kindy, Kindy and Pre-Primary parents to drop off and pick up their children. It is essential that we all show courtesy to other drivers and watch for pedestrians and cyclists so that everyone is safe. Please reverse park in to the bays and observe that the blue bays are allocated to drivers with a disability.
