5/6 News

It has been a hectic few weeks but we are all back at school! I am sure we are all happy to get back with our friends and get out of the virtuality. I'm positive we are all happy to get off the zooms and seesaw tasks. I think that we are all happy to see our friends but we have liked the sleep in a bit. We have been doing lots of reading, writing and math at school and next year's preps had orientation last week and they have been on the new playground.

PE and Art

For the last 2 weeks we have been playing tennis. We have learnt how to do a proper serve, hit the ball into the green and how to hold a tennis racket properly. For the week that we started back up at school we just played some dodgeball to get back into the mood of having sport.

In art, we have a choice of making a magazine bowl, a magazine plate, a magazine Christmas tree or you could make a bowl made of small pieces of fabric and lots of glue. Heaps of people chose to do the Christmas tree to get into the spirit.

Transition

Year 6:

Since we came back from remote learning, we have been preparing for transitioning into year 7. Making speeches, creating dances, and learning about what it will be like in a new school. Not only looking forward, but also looking back in amazement at how far we have come. Even making yearbooks, with things about ourselves, such as what we like, what we don’t like, or even our hobbies. Pictures, reminding us how we have changed and improved, the montage of pictures as we grow up. We are nearing the end of the year, and we are going to savour it all.

Year 5:

As soon as we came back from remote learning, we have been learning about what it will be like to transition into year 6. We have been learning about our buddies next year and writing our letters to them to introduce them to the school, to let them know that they have someone supporting them when they get here. We have also been discussing our year six tops, excited to see how they will come out. Learning about leadership, also leadership roles, preparing us to be role models next year.

Grade 5 buddies

For the past few weeks we have been working on things for the new preps coming into the school in 2022. The year 5’s are all very excited to meet the new preps later on next year.

Recently in the 5/6 classroom the year 5’s have been working on their new buddies they will have next year. In preparation for the new children entering prep they have written a letter to their buddies parents to tell them all about their life and how they would be great buddies.

They have also created a special paragraph for their buddy that will go in a little care package along with a framed photo of them and other cute things. The photo of the year 5s is to be given to their buddies next year for them to hang up on their fridge or keep with them. The year 5’s have been creating some awesome things for the new preps and hope they feel very welcomed the second they enter their classroom. The year 6’s next year will be paired up with a buddy in prep to take care of them for the year. They have been working very hard and we all hope the new preps will enjoy being at this school and that they have fun!

UOI

Our central idea for this unit of inquiry is Rights and Responsibilities change as we age. We have been making a timeline on all the different ages with the new rights, responsibilities and privileges for each age like school at the age of 5 and responsibility is to learn at school. When we have been making videos in groups and explaining the transition from prep into grade 1 and uncovering a lot of more rights and responsibilities. Then making a whole presentation and the preps looking at our video about what you are allowed to do and what you are not allowed to do, so that the preps can prepare for what's ahead of them.
