VCAL News

Return to school

It’s been great to hear the buzz back in the VCAL space after another long remote learning stretch. When the Year 12’s returned, our main focus was on the practical outcomes with students either actioning the projects they had planned during remote learning or pitching in to get the VCAL areas back up to scratch. The salon and café space have been refreshed and put to use while the tool and storage areas have all been optimized ready for the next round of projects to commence. Year 11 projects have had an environmental theme focusing on waste reduction and biodiversity and ideas will be stimulated with a visit to a local hobby farm. One project we are particularly impressed with is the VCAL legacy artwork jacket that has been lasercut and signed by each Year 12 student to be proudly displayed on the wall in the common room. We hope this becomes an ongoing project for future students to help us remember them by.

Year 12 Final Presentations

The end of your secondary schooling brings a range of emotions and these were on full display during the Year 12 final presentations. Students were given the time to reflect on their journey and discuss how they have been able to demonstrate the school values of Community, Ownership and Growth. It’s a great privilege to listen to the maturity of the students and hear them acknowledge the growth and experience they have gained during their time in the VCAL program.

When reflecting on their time at school, some notable quotes were:

“Prac days were good and I’ve made some great friends”

“I should have joined VCAL earlier”

“I hated coming to school until I came to VCAL”

“VCAL has shaped the person I’ve become”

“I’m going to miss everyone here”

It’s always a little bit sad to farewell another group of students but it is made easier when you hear the exciting opportunities they are planning to take up in 2022.

Year 10 + 11 Presentations

During Week 8, it will be the Year 10 and 11 students turn to complete their final presentation. This will involve a 15 minute discussion with VCAL staff using their portfolio completed during the term as the talking points. This will be their final activity to sign off  before we begin Headstart the following week.

Valedictory

The Valedictory committee have started finalising plans for the end of year award and celebration event. The 10th of December has been chosen as the date to give us the best chance to have as many Students and Parents in attendance. A Compass event has been created with ticketing advice and the latest information.

Lockers

Once VCE exams finish up, 2022 Year 12 VCAL students will be moving lockers into the Senior centre to reconnect with their VCE counterparts for their final year. This will make space for next year’s Year 10 and 11 students to move into the VCAL space. Now is a great time to clean out your locker ready for the move. You can’t bring the mouldy sandwiches with you.

VET 2022

With the focus beginning to shift towards next year, students should have finalised their V.E.T. course for 2022. Over the next few weeks, important information will be emailed out including the final enrolment requirements to confirm your place in the course. Please speak to Jackie Woods ifyou are unsure about the process from here.

Enjoy the last few weeks of Term before we welcome another group of fresh faces to the VCAL program during the Headstart period.

2021 Bake off

Congratulations to Trinity Masters for winning the 2021 FMPLLEN Bake off. Trinity was competing against other schools in the area and was tasked with celebrating 20 years of VCAL.
