Positive Climate for Learning

Physical Education

We are back in action, on site and loving it. This term, the year 3-9 students will be building on their striking skills through the target game, Golf. We will be working on putting, chipping and full swings each week.

There were a few moans of “Oh, not golf” when students first saw the golf stations in session 1 but once they got a chance to have a swing, the mood suddenly changed! It was awesome to hear them encourage each other and congratulate one another on a successful shot.

Students are focusing on GASS (grip, aim, stance and swing) in the sessions to ensure they make a successful shot. We might have a few future Kerri Webb’s or Jason Day’s amongst us by the end of term! Parents I warn you, you may have some tough competition at your next mini golf game. These kid’s skills are improving at a rapid rate!

The Prep – 2’s will continue to develop their Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) through games and activities which involve catching, throwing, jumping and bouncing. There is also a strong focus on team work and building confidence in PE.

The VCAL students are developing their own target game lesson. Students have had to choose their equipment, create a target based game, and develop rules and a scoring system. They will then film themselves teaching it.  This will be shown and performed by other ACS students.

We will be completing all (weather dependent) PE sessions outside this term so make sure your child has packed their hat, sunscreen and drink bottle on PE days, as it can get sunny out there.

A big thanks and goodbye to our PE Coordinator/teacher and all time legend of ACS, Arron who has taken a secondment for the next year. I will be taking over most of Arron’s classes until the end of term 4.

Stay active,

Zoe

Performing Arts

In Performing Arts this Term students have just finished their drama program, where they have been developing characters, scripts, puppet shows and so much more.

Students developed their understanding of the Elements of Drama and how they play a vital role in creating and performing.  The preps did an amazing job of creating characters through puppets. Making sure that their character had a voice, name and personality. The grade 1/2s used puppets as well but created their own fairy-tale stories to present and perform to their class.

In 3/4 students have been looking into how to develop a story that creates tension and the 5/6 students have been looking at dramatic action. It has been a wonderful Term so far and the students are  really looking forward to moving into their dance program this week. Where they will create, copy and repeat simple movements, develop understanding of the Elements of dance and perform.

Visual Art

In Visual Art this term, students have been creating a wide range of art pieces in preparation for our Week 10 Virtual Art Show.

Prep students have been consolidating their understanding of colour through mixed media pieces that have been inspired by Monet and Kandinsky. Grade ½ students have been creating their own “Great Wave of Kanagawa” using warm and cool colour choices.

Students in grade 3/4 have been exploring perspective and how to show depth in their artworks through a fun hand and feet portrait.

Our Grade 5/6 students have been introduced to the artwork of Frida Kahlo and have been exploring portraiture, drawing lifelike eyes and collage mini pieces.

In the secondary classes students have created 2 layer portraits and are using foil to create an embossed name plate. Across the school students are exciting to see their artwork showcased again. More details regarding the art show will follow soon.

The Year 1/2's have been working on some super fun 'Surfing Self-Portraits' with Sam in Art!

They learnt about the Godfather of surfing 'DUKE' Kahanamoku and 'Wave Sliding' before collaging these fun artworks!

Secondary Learning Community

This term secondary school students have completed many great activities. Almost too many things to mention here but we will try our best!

Subjects have included Respectful Relationships, Genius Hour, Social Skill Development, Adolescent Health, Digi Tech, Advertising and Careers. Secondary School parents will get to read more about the details of each subject in the upcoming reports published on Compass.

Along with our core literacy and numeracy programs which build essential skills in reading, writing and number, students have also applied these skills through the elective program.

Throughout electives in Term 4, students have begun preparing items which we will sell in our much anticipated Secondary School Christmas Stall. Secondary school parents, families and careers will be invited onsite in December as customers to be served by your young people. Students will practice their communication, money handling and customer service skills when they operate the stall.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
