The following events have been proposed and we are hopeful that we will be able to provide these opportunities for student performances and celebrations.

All events are subject to Covid-safe regulations and limits on attendance.

Bookings will need to be made. More details to come!

Dear Viewbank College Community,

The last few weeks have been incredibly busy, with so many events and activities taking place as the 2021 school year is quickly coming to a close.

Valedictory Celebration

On November 19th, we were able to hold our Valedictory celebration onsite. It was wonderful to have our Year 12 cohort in the Performing Arts Centre for a final awards ceremony. I would like to acknowledge our Valedictorian, Jarrod Schmidt, who both entertained us and took us on journey through six years of highs and lows at Viewbank College. It was also great to see so many parents and family members join for a picnic, some food truck options, and live music provided by or Year 12 music students.

Mia Burns-Walsh

I would also like to recognise one of our Year 12 students, Mia Burns-Walsh.

Mia was presented with the Jaga-Jaga Young Citizens award by our Federal Minister, Kate Thwaites.

This is in recognition of her work in our Viewbank community and as a member of the College Student Leadership team.

Awards Ceremonies

We have held awards ceremonies during this last week, recognising the achievement and effort of students in Years 10 and 11.

I want to congratulate all students on their efforts during the last two difficult years and for their positive approach to orientation week. The reports I have had from teachers indicate a strong desire from students for a fresh start and a big 2022!

Music Events

This week the music team was able to go ahead with Cabaret night, the Concert Bands and Guitar and Strings Soiree.

Thank you goes to Katrina Wellins, Tom Krieg and the music team for preparing students and organising two amazing events.

Students were so excited to be back and performing live.

Despite the wild weather on Thursday evening, we had amazing support from parents.

Cabaret Night

Music BBQ Concert and Strings & Guitar Soiree

We are able to go ahead with more events over the last two weeks of term, including Year 11 & Year 12 Presentation Balls, Public Speaking, Year 10 Work Experience, the Middle School Production, and the College Production of Chicago.

The Middle School have been planning Orientation Day for our new 2022 Year 7 cohort, as well as some fun excursions for our Year 7-9 students to end the year.

Check out the below pictures of the fantastic artwork on the wall on J1 from Mr Azeez's Year 9 Urban Art Class:

Finally, I wish to congratulate two of our staff, who both celebrated 35 years of service to public education. Stav Mouzakis and Michael Walton have been recognised by the Department, and by Viewbank College for their commitment to educating and caring for our young people.

Sustainability Project - Second Hand Uniform Sale

The student leadership team has gained donations of second hand uniform from many of the Year 12's who finished in 2021 and stopped mountains of usable clothing from ending up in land fill.

The leadership team will use money raised, by selling this uniform, to support Friends of Health and Wellbeing projects in 2022.

We will have an after school second hand unifrom stall on

Thursday 9th December from 4pm - 6pm in the gymnasium at Viewbank College.

Bookings are essential.  To book, please click here.

We have many items of shorts, shirts, blazers, dresses, jumpers and pants.

We have only very limited number of jackets.

If you have uniform at home that your child has grown out of and you would like to donate, there will be tubs at the General Office (any time) and also at the Gym (on the day) to drop off.

Smile Squad

Every child deserves and healthy smile

Smile Squad hits the road in Banyule - Viewbank College

All children deserve a healthy smile and the Smile Squad are coming to Viewbank College to help make sure this happens.

Smile Squad is the exciting new State Government program that will provide free, high quality dental care to all Victorian public primary and secondary school students.

Students will quickly become familiar with the bright orange Smile Squad fleet, smart uniforms, approachable staff and the great customer care they provide.

Smile Squad is set to improve the oral health of more than 650,000 children, saving families both time and money, and all without having to leave the school grounds.

The delivery of the Smile Squad program is being managed by Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) who are supporting more than 50 community dental agencies across Victoria to implement the program.

Smile Squad dental vans will provide free examinations and treatment including teeth cleaning, fluoride applications, fillings and any other non-cosmetic treatments to make sure our young people have healthy teeth.

The Smile Squad vans are staffed by experienced oral health therapists, dental therapists, dental assistants and dentists. They all have extensive experience treating children and a passion for improving their oral health – for life.

We all know oral disease is one of the most common and expensive diseases to treat, but it is also the most preventable. That’s why Smile Squad has a strong focus on early prevention and education.

Once a parent provides consent, the Smile Squad team will then check their child’s teeth and mouth and show them how to keep their teeth healthy and strong. They will also provide any preventive services that have been consented for.

It won’t matter if a student is visiting an examination van in rural Victoria or a treatment van in central Melbourne – they will have a similar experience, wherever they are.

Learn more about the Smile Squad by visiting www.smilesquad.vic.gov.au or contact the team at smilesquad@dhsv.org.au.

Take care, stay safe
