Opportunities for Banyule young people December - January

This month we are super excited to launch and share our Summer Series – a series of free or low cost activities that we will be running all Summer long for young people aged 10-25 years. We have environmental, wellbeing and creative workshops, a movie, cultural experiences, an art installation and sporting opportunities plus much more. Please note, all attendees will need to be double vaccinated and show proof on entry according to covid safe practices.

We would be very grateful if you could share these with young people and families in newsletters, virtual noticeboards and social media.

DIY Macramé Workshop workshop

In this workshop, hosted by Laneway Learning, learn how to create macramé plant hangers using cotton yarn from your old T-shirts! Up-cycling old clothes into macramé art is a great way to practice sustainability and low-waste living in a fun and creative way. 

What to bring:

  • Participants need to bring one or two old t-shirts or fabric (no embroidery or ribbed cotton)
  • Optional: a pot plant you’d like to hang, macramé style

Shaah & Sheeko (Tea & Conversation)

Join us at this exciting cultural experience to learn about Somali culture, through discussion and delicious traditional tea and sweet & savory food! We welcome those who would like to learn more about Somali-Australian culture as well as those already connected with the community.

Hoyts “Spiderman – No Way Home”

We have booked out the largest cinema at Greensborough Hoyts for you & your friends to watch the latest Marvel blockbuster "Spiderman - No Way Home".  

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero.  When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Minecraft Gaming

We have heard you!  More Minecraft is on its way.  Banyule Youth Services have teamed up with Ivanhoe library staff to bring you an afternoon of building & play in our favourite block world.  We will have PvP, Build Battles, Spleef, Parkour & lots more.  New & Experienced players welcome.  

You will need to have your own copy of Minecraft to play.

First Nations cultural excellence workshop

Come and enjoy a hands on learning experience with Nartarsha Napanagka Bamblett a 26 year old Yorta Yorta, Walpiri, Wuradjeri & Kurnai women and mother. 

This cultural workshop will be insightful, engaging, thought provoking and conversational. You will learn all about our First Nations people and customs through dance, music and language. There will be opportunity for story telling and sharing with one another. Afternoon tea will be providedWe welcome those who would like to learn more about our First Nations peoples as well as those already connected with the community to share their own stories.

LGBTQI+ ‘Find your style’ workshops

Our two-part workshop  explores ways to explore and create different ways to express yourself outside of rigid gender stereotypes. This workshop will demonstrate creative ways to use clothing, hair and makeup to project a mixture of feminine, masculine, androgenous and everything in between. An LGBTQI+ Inclusive space to explore identity and self-expression. Come along to try something new, meet someone new or just have a great time! 

This workshop will be hosted by Ms. Teresa Problem and supported by BYS and the Rainbow Space crew

Then join “Reels On Wheels”  with the Little Projector Company this innovative project involves riding your bike and stopping for short screenings around the area.
