Library News

Hello to our school community from the MFG Library! I am thrilled to be joining such a fantastic school as a teacher-librarian, working alongside Mrs Kimpton to provide a range of Library services to the students and staff. I hope that all the students new to school this year have been made to feel as welcome as I have this week, especially the Year 7s, who I am looking forward to meeting next week when they have their Library orientation lessons.

The Library Circulation Desk is staffed every school day from 8.30am until 3.15pm. During these times students can borrow from a huge range of fiction books, which are suitable for all types of interests and reading levels. The MFG Library also subscribes to Wheelers eBooks. This can be accessed through Compass 'Favourites' (under the star in the menu bar) or through the ePlatform app (available to download then your child can sign-in using their school Gmail credentials).

Students' research work is supported by the Library through our non-fiction print collection as well as our Libguides, which is a content curation platform that we use to collect and organise class and subject specific resources. The MFG Library Website link on Compass takes you to our current Libguides and more are 'under construction'. Students can access the World Book Encyclopedia Online for reliable, verified information to support their research endeavours, and we also subscribe to an online reference generator to help them create bibliographies that align with Harvard referencing protocols.

For news and current events, the Library subscribes to the Age (both print and online) and the print version of the Geelong Advertiser. We also subscribe to Echo Education which is a fantastic Australia website created specifically to support VCE English students' work on current issues in the media.

While current COVID protections mean students are encouraged to be outside as much as possible during recess and lunchtime, we are hopeful that we will be able to run some lunchtime clubs and activities through the Library again down the track. Students will be the first to be notified as soon as these start up again.

Looking forward to a terrific 2022 in the MFG Library 🙂
