Deputy Principal's Report -

   Years 8, 10 & 12

During the last three weeks of term, I have been filling in for Mrs James as Relieving Deputy and I have really enjoyed working with students from Year 8 and Year 10. While still in cohorts, Year 8 have continued to show commitment to their learning and persevere through the challenges they have faced both in an out of the classroom. Year 8 students have been able to select their Stage 5 elective classes for 2022 and I am sure all students are excited to start their Year 9 adventure in the subjects they enjoy next year. A huge thank you must go to Mrs Hogan for her ongoing support as Year 8 Advisor, her dedication to the Year 8 cohort is greatly appreciated by all staff and students. A big thank you must also go to the families of Year 8 students, 2021 has been a difficult year but we would like to thank you for your continued support.

Over the last the last 3 weeks, Year 10 have undertaken a modified Stage 6 Prep Program. As part of this program students have had the opportunity to have a Taster Week in which they have experienced what their Stage 6 courses will be like, and they have been introduced to their Stage 6 teachers for 2022. Students have also participated in a two day Elevate Education program. Elevate’s high impact seminars and workshops have helped our students improve their study techniques, increase their motivation, and build their confidence as they look to start their Stage 6 courses next year. We hope that our Year 10 students have been able to take some study skills away from these workshops and build upon these skills in Stage 6. Finally, in the last week, Year 10 students have been creating their own Project Based Learning make a movie project in which students have had the opportunity to make their own movie production with their peers on school grounds.

On Monday this week, students had the opportunity to watch their productions in the MPC while enjoying a BBQ lunch. I would like to thank all the staff for their support with the Stage 6 Prep Program especially Ms Hammond, Year 10 Advisor who has worked tirelessly with the Year 10 students throughout the Year.

I would like to wish all our families a safe and happy Christmas and I look forward to working with our school community again in 2022.

Mr Gareth Wright
