Mathematics

The Mathematics Faculty would like to congratulate students for their hard work and dedication over the course of 2021. To say this year was difficult and challenging is a huge understatement. It is these difficult times that serve as a reminder to all, how lucky we are to be part of such a fantastic school community. We would like to sincerely thank all students, staff, parents and community members who supported each other throughout the year.

We would like to offer a very big thank you to The Smith Family and all those who have supported Maths Club over many years. There are many who have helped over the year. However, special mention must go to Mrs Lill as well as Deborah Walters and Regina Gilbert from The Smith Family. I hope you all know how much our students have benefited and appreciate all that you have done. Unfortunately, The Smith Family is unable to continue with this program at our school, however, we are currently exploring the viability of continuing with Maths Club in 2022. If you, or someone you know is interested in volunteering as a Maths Club tutor, please contact the school.

Another thank you must go to Mrs Thornton for all her efforts with ‘Maths n Milo’. Whilst Covid restrictions reduced this program in 2021, many students were still able to benefit from this drop-in service. We will pick this program up again in 2022.

Our current Year 12 students have made a great start to their HSC year with all courses completing their first assessment task in Weeks 9 and 10. Whilst the holidays are a time to rest and recharge, it is also a great opportunity to organise your notes, revisit difficult concepts, complete topic summaries and ensure that all work is up to date. All mathematics courses have now completed enough content for students to start working through past HSC questions on the content covered so far.

It with great sadness that we will be farewelling Miss Natalie Hammond at the end of 2021. She has been an amazing part of our faculty and our school and will be missed. Natalie has an exceptional ability to build positive rapport with everyone that she meets and will be an asset at her next school. We wish her all the very best as she takes on a new challenge at Brisbane Water Secondary College.

Finally, the Mathematics faculty would like to wish the entire Henry Kendall High School community a restful, enjoyable and safe Christmas break. Thanks again for all your support. See you all next year.
