Years 3/4

Week 3 Update

It has been another wonderful week in the Year 3/4 classroom.

On Monday, we celebrated ❤️ Valentine's Day ❤️ by learning about a very special relationship: the relationship between Addition ➕ and Subtraction ➖. We learnt that addition and subtraction are inverse operations which simply means they are opposite. We wrote number sentences to demonstrate this. All the students thought that talking about 'relationships' was pretty cheese however they all really embraced the love theme when celebrating 'A+S' or 'Addition+Subtraction' within their workbooks. 🥰

On Tuesday, we investigated odd and even numbers. We wanted to find out if we could tell if an answer would be odd or even, simply based on if odd or even numbers were used in the equation. We did multiple trials to make sure our evidence was correct ✅.

Here is what we found out:

Here are the results of our investigation.
Here are the results of our investigation.
  • Odd + odd = even
  • Even + even = even
  • Odd + even = odd
  • Odd - odd = even
  • Even - even = even
  • Odd - even = odd
  • Even - odd = odd
  • Odd x odd = odd
  • Odd x even = even
  • Even x even = even

On Wednesday, Miss Thompson wasn't at school because she had a training day 💻📖. The Year 3/4 students were beyond excited when they found out Mrs Murray would be their teacher for the day 🥳.

Every Thursday, we have been doing a 5 Minute Quick Write. We get a picture prompt which Miss Thompson puts on the TV and we have to think of something to write about that goes with the picture. These help us to be more creative and quickly come up with ideas to write. Our favourite part is once we finish writing and we all come to the floor and share. We also find it so interesting how we all have the same picture but we all have extremely different ideas. Here is this week's picture and some of the things we chose to write about.

Once upon a time there were dolphins and they got trapped in a fishing net. The boat had a cow on it because it wasn't any old cow, it could see the fish in the water. And just like that, we are back to Friday and have come to the end of yet another week. The weeks are flying by, but you know what they say: time flies when you are having fun! 👍😊
