Prep,1 & 2 Classroom News

Next week the Junior school will celebrate 'TWOSDAY'.  It’s on a Tuesday so that's just too good of a pun to pass up! When we say that 'Twosday; is a “once in a lifetime” event, we aren't lying. There won’t ever be another opportunity to have such an aesthetically-appealing date again so we just have to celebrate it!

We ask that the kids come to school wearing a pair of colourful socks, brighter the better! Students will participate in lots of fun activities that day all focussing on the number 2, pairs, doubles etc.

Prep News

Wow, what a fantastic few weeks so far! Our Prep's have settled in beautifully and are becoming more comfortable and confident in their new environment.  They have begun to find their way and their identity within the school Community and are jumping into all the amazing fun of Sacred Heart.

Every morning the Preps are eager to get back into the amazing land of Prep. We have been working on ways of playing together as a year level, on the playground and being kind friends to others in our class family. They have continued to engage in developmental play in the classroom. Many of the Preps love our areas of Duplo, dominoes, dinosaurs, our kitchen and Cafe, as well as our office in which many students make very important phone calls, emails and appointments. We also have numerous creation stations in which water colours and crafts can be used .

In Literacy, we have been focusing on our letter identifications, creating lots of brainstorms and letter crafts, which include the letter 'S'.  We have also been working on our fine motor skills with lots of cutting and pasting. We are continuing to expose students to lots of different books and stories to help them develop a love of reading. This week we read 'Wombat Went to School'.

In Maths, Preps are practising their counting and are sorting items into groups using various categories such as colour and size. I even heard one student say "I've sorted mine into land and water animals". Amazing stuff!!

A few reminders- please ensure all your child's belongings are clearly labelled.  iPads will be available soon and you will be notified when you can come and collect them.

Take home books have now been sent home with all students. If your child is finding the books too challenging please contact your child's teacher so adjustments can be made.

Inquiry

Here are some questions students have looked at this week. Where is my place in the Community? Who makes up our school community?

Students identified, friends, classmates, buddies, class teacher, specialist teachers, Principal, Parents etc.

We then asked, How do these people create our community?
