Sustainability News

We are having another push to reduce the rubbish in the yard and at school this year.

We understand play times are fun and full of running around with friends; we are encouraging students to put rubbish in bins  or take their rubbish home to reduce our rubbish in the yard.

We understand many food items targeted for schools are pre-packaged.

We politely encourage our families to be mindful of these items and where practical remove from the packaging prior to school.

Our aim at Sacred Heart is create rubbish free lunchboxes (nude-food). You will note in the coming weeks children will be taking home their packaging to be recycled at home. In doing so, we are hopeful this reinforces our messaging and alternate options are explored, therefore reducing the packaging over time at our school.

We will endeavour to assist with those little containers coming home

If you label it, it will come home!  We encourage families to please label these reusable containers as they can be misplaced from time to time.

Eating Time:

The children are given time in their classrooms before lunch and recess to eat, this varies with age groups naturally. If your child has not finished eating they are encouraged to take the remaining portion out (without wrappers) to one of the seating areas and finish eating there.

This was our campaign poster in 2018 for the Foundation (Prep) classroom.  Each class had this poster and added a coloured sticker for each rubbish free lunch.  We reduced filling 7 wheelie bins A WEEK  to partially filling two of our bins. Returning the other bins saved the school $3200 in Council Rates. Sadly, in 2020/21 we had to get more bins again 😥
