Year 9 Anglesea Camp

150 odd students, 11 teachers, three action packed days and two sleep deprived nights. What a way to kick off the school year! The 2022 Year 9 Anglesea Camp was a roaring success, blessed with sunny skies and fuelled by raucous enthusiasm. With some slight tweaks to the 2021 program (yabbying is apparently for "boomers"…), students threw themselves into a schedule of activities including surfing, skateboarding, raft-building and the Giant Swing.

Teachers were unanimously impressed by the energy which students poured into their daytime activities and amazed by the residual energy expressed as general, good-natured cabin hijinks after lights-out was called each night. When pressed to choose their ‘Camp Champs’, the teachers leading the activity groups nominated the following students for the positivity, leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, encouragement and sheer can-do-spirit they displayed: Deqa Awad, Archer Mathers, Abbey Suwarjaya, Amelie Rodda, Jim Bridgewater, Lucas Walker, Hirday Rattan, Ellis Schumacher, Alexandra Kotsabas, Elizabeth Akritidis, Danny Pritchard, Rebecca Cunningham, Abbey Wallace and Charlotte Wood.

A special shout out also goes to Patrick Bubbers for “ringing the bell,” to James Mandarano for (food-related) enthusiasm and gratitude, and to Christian Tirabassi for (coffee-related) enthusiasm and initiative .

All in all, the Year 9 Anglesea Camp was a brilliant experience and gave us all some much needed momentum. We’ll all be riding the wave well into 2022.

Year 9 Anglesea Camp Report by a student

Camp was an amazing experience! We started activities as soon as we got to Anglesea and no activity across the whole three days was boring. Surfing was an adrenaline racing activity that was hard for a lot of people but heaps of fun. There was a skatepark where the camp instructors taught us how to skate. We also got to go on the Giant Swing. We all ate our breakfasts and dinners (noisily) in the dining room. We had a trivia night on Thursday evening but also had hours of free time, which most people agreed was the most fun part of camp.
