Year 7
The first day of high school for Year 7 students is always filled with excitement and nervousness. As the Year 7 students arrived at school with their families for their first day of 2022, they were dressed to impress with the new Thornbury High School uniform and overfilled school bags.
As we were unable to hold an assembly due to COVID restrictions, the day started for each student in their form room, meeting their Year 7 class for the 2nd time. The Year 7 coordinators visited each class and welcomed them all to our school, giving them information on what they would be achieving throughout the day.
Learning to open combination locks, setting up lockers and meeting all their new teachers were just some of the many fun tasks the Year 7s completed on their first day of high school. Needless to say, the first day of Year 7 was a raging success, with students showing enthusiasm in all that they did.
Although the first few weeks of school were a challenge for our new Year 7s; making new friends, navigating the many classrooms and learning their teacher's names, most have managed to settle in seamlessly and are now well versed at organising their day ahead and ensuring they are punctual to each class.
Some of the highlights of the past 2 weeks of school have been making lots of new friends from different primary schools, signing up for school sports, hiring sports equipment at lunchtime from the Year 7 office, participating in experiments in Science, making chocolate truffles in Food Studies and drawing and painting in Art. And that's just to name a few.
With the students first sports carnival just completed (Swimming at Coburg Pool on Fri 18th Feb), there are still more exciting times ahead for our Year 7 students including our camp at the renowned Lake Dewar Lodge in Bacchus Marsh, from Wednesday 2nd March - Friday 4th March.
We look forward to continuing to work with our Year 7s this year, watching them grow and flourish into successful and well rounded high school students.
