Principal's Report

Welcome to the 2022 School Year

I would like to officially welcome all families to the start of the 2022 school year. Despite the challenges faced by many students and their families as we continue to deal with the impact of COVID, it has been great to be able to have a full first month of learning onsite.

Once again it was a different start to the school year, with the focus this time on COVID safety measures like ventilation, air purifiers, masks and rapid antigen testing.

Year 7s were welcomed by their Year 10 Peer Support leaders to their first day on Monday 31 January, a shortened-day transition program which finished with a lovely lunch with their families and staff. Year 12s also commenced on Monday with a full day of normal classes.

Years 8-11 commenced on Tuesday 1 February with a full day of normal classes. I have been pleased with the start to the year for students across the school, including the compliance with the requirement to wear masks indoors, a challenge at the best of times but certainly even more so in the warmer weather.

We have also been able to hold a number of key events, including a fun-filled Year 9 Camp and a very successful Years 7-9 swimming carnival. Our Sports Captain Harvey Constable and his team of House Captains did a fantastic job last week, getting students involved and participating throughout the day.

Year 7 Camp is set to proceed next week and later in the term Year 11s will have their Camp.

STEAM Centre update

After an unfavourable tender result at the end of 2021, the Victorian Schools building Authority and the architects have been working through a range of value management items with the tenderers. This has slightly delayed the awarding of the tender and the commencement of the building works, but they should commence very soon.

I hope all families had a great break over the holidays and I look forward to a year where we can gather as a community in many different forums.
