Assistant Principals News

This week we hosted six award ceremonies to celebrate the academic achievements of our students. We were so pleased to be able to join together as year groups to acknowledge their hard work and dedication. This was a particularly joyful occasion, considering we have been unable to join as year groups since July due to social distancing requirements.

I wish to congratulate all the award winners and encourage them to continue this application in 2022. To those that didn’t receive awards, your challenge is to start afresh in 2022 with some fresh learning goals and social goals and commit to meeting those. I challenge you to be the best possible person and student that you can, taking part in the ‘Marian Way’.

We also celebrated our Major Awards in 2022. It was lovely to see so many of our 2021 Yr 12 students return to the College to be acknowledged for their achievements throughout their six years at MCC. Many Yr 11 and Junior students also received rewards and their pride was well deserved as their community spirit, sporting, creative and academic achievements were certainly impressive.

We were so happy to be able to host our outgoing Year 12 students and their families at our Yr 12 Graduation last Friday. This joyful occasion highlighted how resilient and determined these young adults were to finish Year 12 as a team. Led by the Pastoral Leader Mr Morris, this year group had to overcome far more obstacles than any other year group and it was clear that they felt well deserved pride in their achievements. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours and look forward to celebrating their HSC results at their High Achievers assembly at the beginning of 2022.

While Monday the 13th is the last day of school for students, staff will have two days of Professional Learning next week to review 2021 and plan ahead for 2022.

On Monday staff will engage in a Mental Health First Aid Course, facilitated by Murrumbidgee Health Leader John Dean and Senior Constable Alex Davies. This course will provide our staff with a three year credential and ensure they are able to identify, refer and support the young people in their care regarding serious mental health issues.

Next year, staff will resume on Friday 29th January with two days of allocated Professional Learning before Year 7, 11 and 12 students resume on Tuesday 1st of February and Year 8, 9 and 10 on Wednesday the 2nd February.

Thank you again to all parents, carers, staff and students for your support during the turbulent year of 2021 and we look forward to a great 2022.

Yours in Learning,

Lora Segrave and Damien Herb
