SAINTS BOARDING

News from Brett Toombs

Director of Boarding

Commencement of Term 4

It has been an exceptionally smooth start to the new term for boarding as all our students returned from holidays in a timely manner and have started the term very well. Thank you to our parents for organising flights and travel to assist the school for the start of Term 4. Special thanks as well to Mr Carswell and Ms King for all the preparation and work with ABSTUDY in booking return flights for our students.

The term is relatively short, with only six weeks before the end of the school year. Our boarders from both colleges finish on Friday 25 November, and, as always, they will be at school until the final day of term.

End of School for Year 12s

At the end of week 3, our Year 12 boarders will have completed their regular classes and begin their preparations for the external exams, which start on Monday 24 October. St Augustine’s will celebrate graduation day beforehand on Thursday 20 October. St Monica’s College will enjoy this day on Wednesday November 16.  Mr Lawrence and Mrs Duffy are working with our Year 12 boarders to discover their intentions for boarding movements during exams. If there is any further information that parents may have about this, please contact the relevant head of residence.

Celebration of our Year 12 Boarders Final Sunday Night Mass

The boarding community fittingly celebrated the final Sunday night Mass for our Year 12s last Sunday. It was a lovely Mass with excellent involvement by all students.

Congratulations to Ebbony Mountford who received the Spirit of Chavoin Award and Kurt Plant who won the Spirit of Francois Award. We also congratulate all our Year 12 boarders, and thank them for their positive contribution and involvement in the boarding community.

Free Weekend

The first boarding free weekend is scheduled for this coming weekend. Thank you to our families for working with the respective heads of residences to organise a plan for your son and daughter’s movements this weekend. Students who are staying in boarding will enjoy a one-night camp at Genazzano, near Lake Tinaroo. Our boarding community will travel to the lake after breakfast on Saturday morning and arrive back at the College by 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

A reminder to all boarders and families that students have until 8pm to return to their residences this Sunday night. If students wish to return on Monday morning, please contact the respective head of residence well in advance.

Saturday Outing

The first Saturday outing for the term to Palm Cove last weekend  was popular. It was a relaxing and enjoyable day for the boarders who took advantage of the warmer weather and enjoyed swimming. We look forward to the camp at Lake Tinaroo this weekend.
