Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have  served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

NEW NEWS!

Celebrations for the 60th Anniversary of the Ordination of Mons. Peter.

What a wonderful week of celebrations for our very own Monsignor Peter as he celebrated his 60th anniversary of ordination on July 27th! A truly amazing week to recognise this incredible milestone and thank the Mons for all he is and all he does for St. Mary’s Parish, St. Mary’s School and the wider local, national and international communities!

NEW NEWS!

Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop - 8th August.

Next Tuesday, 8th August, we celebrate the feast day of Saint Mary of the Cross

MacKillop, Australia’s first saint.

Some facts about Mary MacKillop:

  • Mary MacKillop was passionate about the education of children in country areas of Australia and New Zealand. She wanted to help poor children who could not afford to go to school.
  • In 1866, Mary MacKillop opened the first Josephite School in a disused stable. She founded the Sisters of St. Joseph, whose symbol includes three “J’s.” standing for Jesus, Joseph and John the Baptist.
  • Mary opened orphanages, schools and hospitals to help people in need. She was an inspiring woman.
  • Some of Mary’s famous quotes include, “Never see a need without doing something about it” and “We are but travellers here, so while we are here let us do as much good as we can.”

NEW NEWS!

Feast of the Assumption.

Our next whole school Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 15th August: the Feast of the

Assumption. The Assumption refers to Mary being assumed — body and soul — into heaven at the end of her earthly life.

The “Assumption” is different from the Ascension of Jesus because one is passive (Mary was assumed into Heaven) and the other is active (Jesus ascended into Heaven).

Mass will be celebrated at 9.45am in the Marian Centre.

This feast day is recognised as a holy day of obligation for Catholics. Historically, holy days of obligation were special occasions on which Catholics were obliged to attend Mass. In the early 20th century, there were 36 holy days of obligation a year. In 2001, Australian Bishops announced the only days of obligation would be Christmas Day, the Feast of the Assumption and all Sundays of the year.
