Hello, from our students and teachers.

Hello from  Grade 2/3MB.

In class this week, we have been learning about multiplication and the different ways this can be represented.

The students have looked at using repeated addition, skip counting, arrays, diagrams and number stories. Here are some examples of their work.

To consolidate our understanding students have also been playing maths games centered around multiplication. A new one is called Three in a Row. In this games students must choose two times tables to work on, then they write all the multiples of those numbers to 9x. Then they roll a nine sided dice, or flip a playing card and multiply the number by one of their multiplication facts. They then put a counter on the answer and try to get three in a row.

Before the holidays the Grade 2/3 classes went on an excursion to Melville Caves. We spent the term exploring natural wonders of Australia and decided to explore an impressive geographical feature closer to home. We hiked to the top of Melville Caves, then explored the caves themselves. We then hiked back down for a BBQ lunch cooked over the open fires at the picnic area. After lunch we explored the rock formations around the picnic area and once the rain set in, so intrepid students braved the elements to explore another area of the park.

Everyone had a great day and enjoyed the freedom of exploring such a magnificent place.
