Term 3, Week 2

RRRR

During Respectful Relations, 3/4 Green have been exploring ‘individuality’. This week we completed a matching pairs game. The matching pairs game required the students to find another student in the room who they thought their card belonged with. They then needed to discuss the similarities and differences between the two cards. This game sparked great conversations about similarities and differences and how we need to be able to respect and enjoy diversity.

Students are also saving up their stickers for some pretty cool prizes:

We would like to remind everyone of our Pyjama Day on this coming Monday 7th August. Please come in your cosiest pj's, along with a gold coin donation to go towards our new relaxation zone 'Pear Square.' Please note that slippers are OK to wear in classrooms, however school appropriate footwear should also come along for outdoors.

Today, our KESO (Koorie Education Support Officer) Jess Egan paid us a visit. Together, we learned about the significance of both 'Welcome to Country' and 'Acknowledgement of Country.' Jess taught us about the difference between the two in preparation for us collaborating and writing an "Acknowledgement of Country" for our school!

We also learned that Dja Dja Wurrung translates to 'Yes Yes People'.

We look forward to meeting with Jess again in two weeks to continue our work on our Spring Gully Acknowledgement of Country!

Thank you for your continued support

Hats are Back!

As a proud SunSmart school, students will be asked to wear broad-brimmed hats or bucket hats outside from Monday 14th August. This is in line with the Cancer Council’s SunSmart recommendation that hats be worn from mid-August through to the end of April. Although it may not feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be damaging on cool, cloudy days. Students without an appropriate hat will be asked to use shaded areas or suitable areas protected from the sun.

Too much of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. It is also one of the most preventable cancers. You can’t see or feel the sun’s UV. Whatever the weather, if the UV levels are three or more, it’s important to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!

Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart appsunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.

Hats may be purchased from our uniform supplier, Noone.

Noone's hours are Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm and Saturday 9 am-12 pm.
