Week 5: Homework due – Reading log

Week 6: Homework due – Reading log and Big Write Talk

Writing: During our Writing sessions over Weeks 3 and 4, our students have continued to develop a variety of skills and strategies to create a strong narrative piece. We have looked at character biographies, applying the ‘show, don’t tell’ skill and varying the style when using conversational dialogue. Over Weeks 5 and 6 we will continue to work on procedural writing pieces.

Maths: We have finished our ‘Time’ topic for Mathematics and have moved into learning about Money. This will be our core focus until the end of Week 6.

Reading: We are continuing to read ‘George’s Secret Key to the Universe’ and complete activities based on this book during our Reader’s Notebook lessons. This book has been really engaging with the key information pages about space, which relates to part of our Topic activities for this term.

Topic and STEAM: This Term during Topic, our focus is Science. Our students will be participating in a range of activities across the term that involve Change of Matter, Light, Space and Livings Things.

In STEAM the Grade 5s have progressed through their Robotics program and have been successful in building and coding their basic model to manoeuvre around a road map. The Grade 6s have been designing a car that is powered by rubber bands. We are up to building our first model and discovering different ways to make our car move.
