CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to determine the important information within an informative text. Proficient readers are able to decide, from everything on the page, what is most important to remember.


VOCABULARY

Determine importance: The reader focuses on what's most important in the text so that he/she can develop deeper meaning and overall understanding of the text.

Important: of great significance or value

Information text: are Non-Fiction texts which give information on particular subjects.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

While listening to your child read from their satchel each night, you can ask them what was important in their text and discuss why this was important in their book.

 (This can be done in both fiction and nonfiction texts)
