Year 3 News - Excursion to Werribee Zoo

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Year 3s went on an excursion to the Werribee Zoo. This links to our Inquiry unit on ‘Biological Sciences’, as well as our previous Civics and Citizenship unit on ‘Connecting to Country’.

The interactive Keeper Talks provided a unique opportunity for our students to engage with passionate zookeepers, learning about their roles in caring for the animals and the crucial conservation efforts being undertaken.

The students embarked on an exciting Safari Bus Tour, where they encountered animals such as giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and antelopes.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parent volunteers who joined us on this excursion. We look forward to more enriching experiences for our students in the future.

Lucy:

Hey everyone!

This week, the grade 3’s went on an excursion to the zoo. It took us an hour to get there. Once we were there, we had our snack, then my group got to see the hippos and then the cheetahs. One of the zoo keepers taught us about Australian animals. Then the whole class met up and went on the safari bus. We saw lots of animals like giraffes, hippos, rhinos, camels and male and female ostriches. My favourite part of the day was the Australian Trail. It was a spectacular day! Thank you to all the amazing parent helpers, who came and supported us on our adventures. You guys are the best and made our day so much more fun!!!

Ishaan:

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the grade 3’s separated into two groups and went to the Werribee Zoo. We had lots of fun. We met someone named Shaan, who gave us a gum leaf and taught us things about wallabies. Then we looked at boxes with animal clues and had to guess the Australian animals, mine was a wallaby. Then we went on the Safari bus and saw lots of animals such as hippos, ostriches, giraffes, zebras, rhinos and one-humped camels. One rhino almost ran into our bus! After this, we went to the reptile house and saw animals such as the blue tongue lizard, python and shingle back. My favourite part of the day was when we saw the zoo keeper feeding the cheetah and showing us lots of tricks.

Liam:

Hi everyone!

On Wednesday 3A and 3B went to Werribee Zoo. We saw lots of animals, such as lions, reptiles and much more. I learnt that one of the Aboriginal tribes believe the Wedge-Tailed Eagle created Australia. My favorite part of the day was when we went on the Safari and saw ostriches, hippo’s, giraffes, zebras and more. The giraffe was licking the top of the other safari bus! It was a really great day!

100 Days of Prep!!

The Prep students had a fantastic time on their 100th day of learning. Thank you to the parents for participating in our morning mass and joining our morning tea. It was beautiful to see our Grade 6 buddies being involved in our ceremony and the Preps were excited to see the lovely gifts that were given to them by their buddies! We loved the little message that they had written.

Preps spent the day filled with lots of fun activities and crafts to celebrate their 100 days of school. This included decorating their own cupcake, creating a 100 day crown, badge and completing a self-portrait of themselves at 100 years old. To end the day the students showed off their 100 years old outfits with a parade at the whole-school assembly. They enjoyed showing off their outfits in the parade!

We are very proud of our prep students and are excited to see how much they learn and grow over their next 100 days of school.

Craigieburn Library Class Visits

Students in 5C & 5D will be visiting the Hume Craigieburn Library next week. For your child to be able to borrow a book they must be a member of the library. If your child isn't a member already the weekend would be a great time for you to visit the library and become a member. To sign up, you need to visit the library in person and provide identification with your current address. If your child has a membership card but has not borrowed within the last 12 months, their library card will be expired. We look forward to the library visits this year and making use of this amazing community resource.
