Brief Description: This unit of study is a practical subject that covers all aspects of individual and team Basketball skills. By engaging in basketball activities, students will develop physical skills, enhance their understanding of game strategies and tactics, and foster personal and social development.

 

Scaffolding Learning

At the conclusion of this unit of study students will have: 

 

An understanding of key knowledge

  • Understand and implement strategies, tactics, and game plans.
  • Recognise and apply principles of fair play, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Understand biomechanical principles related to basketball skills, such as shooting technique, footwork, and body positioning.

Attained these key skills 

  • Demonstrate and apply various movement skills, such as dribbling, shooting, passing, and defending.
  • Develop cardiovascular fitness, agility, coordination, and strength through basketball activities.
  • Apply tactical strategies, such as offensive and defensive patterns, in basketball gameplay.

Moving the body

  • Perform and refine specialised movement skills in challenging movement situations (VCHPEM152)
  • Develop, implement and evaluate movement concepts and strategies for successful outcomes (VCHPEM154)
  • Evaluate own and others’ movement compositions, and provide and apply feedback in order to enhance performance situations (VCHPEM153)

Understanding movement

  • Analyse the impact of effort, space, time, objects and people when composing and performing movement sequences (VCHPEM156)

Learning through movement

  • Devise, implement and refine strategies demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills when working in groups or teams (VCHPEM158)
  • Transfer understanding from previous movement experiences to create solutions to movement challenges (VCHPEM159)
  • Reflect on how fair play and ethical behaviour can influence the outcomes of movement activities (VCHPEM160)
