Art/Tech - Robotics & Website Design

Subject Name: Digital Technology

Unit of Study: Robotics & Website Design

Brief Description: Students learn how to code robotics to enhance our lives and support people with additional needs. Students will also learn how websites have been developed over the past 20 years and how to create websites using HTML and WYSIWYG programming.

Scaffolding Learning

At the conclusion of this unit of study students will have:

An understanding of key knowledge

  • To create programs for robotics to assist people in the community
  • To create websites using multiple languages such as WYSIWYG and HTML

Attained these key skills

  • Coding in HTML, block and JavaScript
  • Using Industry standard Innovation process in creating prototypes
  • Website design in multiple online software programs used in industry
  • Understanding key moments in Internet history

Demonstrated the Victorian curriculum standards and capabilities

  • Define and decompose real-world problems precisely, taking into account functional and non-functional requirements and including interviewing stakeholders to identify needs (VCDTCD050)
  • Design the user experience of a digital system, evaluating alternative designs against criteria including functionality, accessibility, usability and aesthetics (VCDTCD051)
  • Design algorithms represented diagrammatically and in structured English and validate algorithms and programs through tracing and test cases (VCDTCD052)
  • Develop modular programs, applying selected algorithms and data structures including using an object-oriented programming language (VCDTCD053)
  • Evaluate critically how well student-developed solutions and existing information systems and policies take account of future risks and sustainability and provide opportunities for innovation (VCDTCD054)

Assessment Tasks

Students will be required to complete the following assessment tasks:

  • HTML website design
  • WYSIWYG Website Design using online software.
  • Mini Golf course using robotics
  • Sphero Research Task
  • End of Semester Exam

Additional learning opportunities

  • BNTS - website design excursion

Resources

  • Laptop with Notepad++

Pathways

This unit of study could provide students with the following pathway.
