Unit of Study: Art Through the Ages

 

Brief Description: Embark on a captivating journey through the ages as we explore the rich and diverse world of art history. This unit of study offers a comprehensive overview of artistic movements, significant artists, and iconic artworks from ancient civilisations to the present day. Through dissecting artworks and insightful discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of art and its profound impact on culture, society, and human expression. This unit provides broad knowledge of the art world, and how art history has shaped art making in contemporary society. Students will employ this knowledge to their own art making, and produce a collection of artwork in a visual journal that explores a range of materials, techniques and methods.

  • Investigate significant artists, their works, and their contributions to the art world.
  • Analyse and interpret artworks through a historical, cultural, and social lens.
  • Reflect on art and history ideas and justify individual views

  • Analyse and interpret artworks from different periods, identifying stylistic elements, symbolism, and the use of artistic techniques.

  • Explore how artists manipulate materials, techniques, technologies and processes to develop and express their intentions in art works (VCAVAE041)
  • Select and manipulate materials, techniques, and technologies and processes in a range of art forms to express ideas, concepts and themes (VCAVAV042)
  • Conceptualise, plan and design artworks that express ideas, concepts and artistic intentions (VCAVAV043)
