EnlighTEN

EnlighTEN Program overview

Becoming an Active Learner

Macleod College is promoting student learning and agency by providing Year 10 students with the opportunity to have more of a voice in what they learn. Students will be able to map out an individualised program from a variety of units of study that are connected to the key learning areas of English, Humanities, Science, Art/Technology, Health/PE and German. Learning will be aligned with student passions, learning styles and abilities and will help them develop their own unique educational and future career pathway.

Please note: Due to its sequential nature, Mathematics is not part of this program and will run according to an alternative format.

Purpose

The EnlighTEN program has been developed to improve student engagement by promoting student agency and voice. Themed units of study have been designed to stimulate student interest which will motivate them to connect with their learning. That in turn, will improve academic results and better prepare our students for their VCE. The program aims to cultivate more informed and focused students who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to achieve success.

Procedure and implementation

Year 09 students and parents/carers will be provided with an information evening during Term 3 which will be followed by a Year 09 assembly within a week of the evening.

At the Year 09 assembly, KLA representatives will provide students with detailed information about the Units of Study that are being offered in Semester 1 and 2 in the following academic year.

The Curriculum Leader, with the KLA leaders, will also provide students and families with an information pack (available online on the college website). The information pack will have details about each Unit of Study (name, description, key knowledge & skill covered, type of assessment and a pathway to VCE, VCE/VM and beyond). The information pack will also provide a step-by-step guide as to how to select the desired Units of Study.

Year 09 Student Manager and Career Leader will provide guidance on how to select Units of Study and ensure that these selections connect with the student's desired pathway.

Year 09 Students will be notified in Term 4 regarding the Units of Study that they will be enrolled in for Semester 1 and 2 of the next year. Students will also be provided with information about the resources that they will need for the completion of the units they have selected.

In the following year, the students (now in Year 10) will be provided with an opportunity in Term 2 to review their Semester 2 Unit of Study choices.
