From the Acting Principal

Term 3 Week 3

Dear Parents and Carers

As mentioned last week, the Prep students celebrated the major milestone of ‘100 Days of School.’ The great day started with a red carpet arrival, then off to a breakfast of fruit, toast and cereal in the community centre. The tables were beautifully set and covered with congratulatory cards from students in all other levels of the school. It was then time for stories, games and a range of activities throughout the day. We finished with an assembly during which the Year 6 students interviewed their Prep buddies about the highlights of school so far and their future career plans. As the school maths leader and former PE teacher it was very pleasing to hear how many preps liked maths especially learning about money the best and wanted to become football players. We will keep our eyes open in the future. Thanks to all the staff and parents who helped make the day very memorable for the preps, with a special mention to Mrs. Cumming who as always, went above and beyond to make it a highlight of their year.

Thanks to Mrs. Jacombs, our school Leader of Learning Diversity. Each year Catholic Schools are required to submit evidence of the extra adjustments the teachers and learning support officers make for our students with diagnosed disabilities. We submit this evidence to MACS in August each year as part of our application for additional funding from the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

NCCD Information Sheet parents). This funding is used to support students with disabilities by providing funding for our great team of LSOs who work in and out of the classrooms with individuals and groups of students. This was Norah’s first time completing the application and she has done an excellent job. Thanks to the rest of the NCCD team for their support, Mrs. Chaplin-Holmes, Mrs. Eddy and Mrs. Asdagi, as well as all the teachers who are the ones doing the all important jobs in the classrooms.

We welcomed 2 new students to the school, with Claire joining our Prep Class and Luca joining 1/2RB. A number of our year 2 girls decided to take on the impromptu role of greeting party. The friendly and confident way they introduced themselves was such a great endorsement for our welcoming community.

While it may seem like it is a long way off we thought we would give families a heads up that we have broken with tradition and moved the Christmas Carols from a Thursday night to Wednesday 6th December. This change became necessary to help accommodate the transition process for our year 6 students. It is a little too early to be talking about Christmas but it is never too late for the students to be working on staying on the nice list. Speaking about our Year 6 students we just want to remind them that Friday 4th of August is Graduation Photo Day so make sure you shine up those shoes and do your hair before you come to school that day.

In sporting news a team of 55 year 3-6 students attended the Eltham District Athletics Carnival on Friday 28th July. We had a number of great performers and we look forward to our sports leaders letting you know how everyone went in the next couple of weeks. A huge thanks needs to go to the team of parents who were able to come along on the day, run the score table and cheer us on.

Regards
