From the

Assistant Principal

Dear Parents / Carers,

This week we were excited to launch our ‘Readathon’ with a video message from local author Alison Lloyd. In her writing, Alison brings history alive in her entertaining fiction and non-fiction books for children. Several of her books have been shortlisted for awards. In 2019, The Upside-down History of Downunder, illustrated by the much-loved Terry Denton, won the NSW Premier’s History Prize. She lives in Melbourne with her family and hundreds of books. Find her books and more at www.alisonlloyd.com.au

Reading is a most remarkable human ability. It unlocks for the reader a world of ideas and information, can take them on incredible journeys of discovery, awaken imagination, builds confidence and provides a gateway to education and employment later in life. During our readathon, students are encouraged to read more and develop a love for reading. As well as raising funds for our school, it provides an opportunity for students to read what they enjoy for pleasure. This can include novels, picture story books, comics, magazines, or audiobooks.

This year, we will celebrate Book Week from Monday 21 – Friday 25 August.

On Thursday 24 August we invite parents/carers to come along to their child's classroom for a morning of reading stories together. The session will commence at 9:00 am and conclude at 9:45 am.

On Friday 25 August all students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. I wonder which book character Ms Babich will come dressed as this year?

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey 2023

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians will be selected to participate in this year’s survey.  The survey is optional, however we encourage all randomly selected families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 14 August to Friday 8 September 2023. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Kind regards,
