Principal
WE WANT OUR
PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS
TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate.
Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
All families are invited to participate in the survey.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Instructions in 21 other languages have been posted on Compass to assist with the completion of the survey.
All parents will be provided with a log in code via Compass today and a link to access the survey.
If you have any questions, please contact the general office on 9463 7300 for assistance.

Information Evenings
Thank you to those parents who attended the VCE / VM, Year 10 and Year 9 information evenings over the last couple of weeks. While the students undertake sessions during the day outlining the information received by parents, it is important that the school continues to find opportunities to develop an ongoing partnership with all parents as their children move through the college. This partnership is critical to ensuring that the students at the college get the best out of themselves. The hard part of selecting subjects is now with the students and parents, and I wish you the best with the process. The school website has a lot of information via the year level handbooks. They can be accessed by the following link – Subjects & Handbooks | Lalor Secondary College (lalorsc.vic.edu.au)
Local Parliamentary Convention
I had the pleasure of opening the Local Parliamentary Convention on Friday the 28th of July. The 18th convention facilitated by LSC was again a huge success with the following schools in attendance –
- Lalor Secondary College
- Camberwell Grammar School
- Lalor North Secondary College
- Mill Park Secondary College
- The Lakes South Morang College
- Northside Christian College
Our guest speakers of Minister Andrew Giles, Bronwyn Halfpenny MP and Senator Jana Stewart did a wonderful job of delivering engaging and passionate presentations on the subject of - “Is recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution and the creation of a Voice to Parliament more likely to lead to reconciliation?” A huge congratulations and thank you to the Humanities team that put the event together, again it was a great success with more schools planned to join in 2024.
Respectful Behaviour within the School Community
When parents, carers and school staff work together as one team, our students do better. Everyone at school, particularly staff and parents/carers, play a role in making school a better place for learning and work.
Parents, carers and school staff have a relationship that can last many years. This is an opportunity to work together to create a positive relationship in the best interests of your child. When this relationship is built on respect and trust, students learn better and feel like they belong in the school.
Every member of our school community has a right to feel safe and be protected.
The department’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.
There are also resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources. You can find the policy and these resources here.
You may also see a new poster up around our school, promoting positive behaviour.
If you have any questions or queries in relation to the information above, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Best Regards,
Corey Jewell
