SASS Recognition

To Our wonderful and amazing SASS Staff
On behalf of our Merrylands High School community, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued amazing support to whole MHS school community.
You are often the first people seen by students, staff and community members when they enter the school and you have played a key role in maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and the community. Your contributions in supporting student learning and wellbeing is highly appreciated by us.
You have cared for all of us at MHS.
I know how difficult these times are for all of us, however the outstanding work you do everyday does not go unnoticed. Thank you!

Weekly Raffle

The teachers of MHS are proud of the efforts of our students whilst learning online. To congratulate these students, teachers have been nominating students to be placed in a raffle. These nominations were recorded on Sentral and can be accessed by parents via the Parent Portal. A raffle was conducted each week, whereby a student from year 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 was selected. These students then selected a prize to be mailed to their home. The prizes include: oztag sets, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, juggling balls, diablos, netballs as well as a range of arts supplies (sketch kits, water colour paints, acrylic paints, modelling clay, scratch boards). Congratulations to our prize winners and the students of MHS who  continue to be safe, respectful learners online.

Shout Out to 8PE1

Student’s in 8PE1 have not let the lockdown impact their school work. Miss Karantanas has been highly impressed with the level of effort these students have put in weekly towards their school work. Majority of students in 8PE1 have committed to weekly zoom sessions and their assessment submission rates have been fantastic. The effort from 8PE1 does not go unnoticed and they should be very proud of themselves.

Safe, Respectful, Learners

Bronze Awards

This term we have continued to recognise the efforts of our students whilst they engage online. Students who have received multiple positive nominations will receive both a Bronze Award (once face to face learning resumes) and a positive letter home. Congratulations to our recipients!

Student Merits

While learning from home has its challenges, students can overcome these difficulties with the right support. This means encouraging and recognising learners for the great work and effort they are placing into their studies. So thank you to those who consistently join our online lessons. These and many others will be waiting for you the moment we all go back to school.

Australian History Competition

In late Term 3, 36 Merrylands High School students from Years 7-10 took part in the Australian History Competition. This is a nationwide competition in which students from schools all across the country are given historical source material and 50 multiple choice questions to answer. The competition is split with different papers for Stage 4 and 5.

We have now received the results back and I am happy to say that Merrylands High School has some future historians. Many of our students had excellent scores that were above both the State and National mean. All students from Merrylands High School that took part in the competition represented our school with pride and showed a passion for Australian history.

News from Year 11 - exams but not like you've seen them before!

Congratulations to Year 11 who have shown their resilience and dedication to their studies by completing their final Preliminary Assessment Tasks online.  Juggling the many demands on their time including work shifts, family commitments, illness and missing each other - Year 11 have still been patiently sitting under the watchful gaze of their wonderful teachers on Zoom cameras to complete their exams.  We couldn't be prouder of you all.
- Mr Viuya, Mr Salama and Ms Smith
