Safe, Respectful Learners

Feel included in our school activities, make friends and reach goals

Edrolo

Using Edrolo, Stage 6 students across the different HSIE KLA's took the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the topics during their remote learning. Edrolo is an innovative online learning tool that facilitated students’ learning through a range of comprehensive resources and interactive videos. The students practiced exam style questions and self-assessment of their responses, comparing them to the sample responses. Some of the feedback from Year 11 Business Studies students included:

" I would rate Edrolo 9/10."

" Edrolo has helped me to improve my understanding of the topics whilst learning online. The information provided is easy to understand and it has been very helpful."

Food Technology / Zoom cooking LEAP

Food brings people together! The lockdown did not stop us from sharing a virtual bite with each other. Through out this term we have enjoyed cooking together via Zoom. This activity was a big hit amongst everyone! Our recipes were: Rocky Road, Pasta Salad, Coconut and Chocolate balls, as well as the popular Carrot Muffins/cake!

Penguins

The L.E.A.P two students have been engaged in learning Geography using the google earth and other online teaching methods. Recently Mr. Wark, the Deputy Principal have been part of our Geography lessons. Mr. Wark brought in his HSIE expertise and incorporated his HSIE knowledge and skills in the lesson on the two polar regions of the earth. The students enjoyed the new knowledge presented by Mr. Wark and they ventured out to explore the two continents. As research mentions that there is something so powerful about allowing students the freedom to use a specific amount of time in any way they choose – as long as it supports their learning. Samuel and Jorel expressed the knowledge and skills learnt by participating in a matching online exercise and engaged in discussions on the topic in a flexible and conducive environment. They maintained the knowledge acquired in the lesson by answering questions in the follow up lesson when their prior learning was checked!  It was indeed a memorable lesson!  A spark is ignited to go on a journey to Alaska one day!

Thank you, Mr. Wark. Appreciate your input in the lesson.

Ms. Thethi

Mathematics Online

Our students have engaged with their Mathematics teachers via multiple online platforms, including: Google Classroom, Zoom, Teams, Quizziz, Google Forms and Edrolo. Our stage 6 students completed their final assessments tasks from home and navigated this challenge with a positive mindset and mature attitude. Our junior students have also completed their assessments online, using the Quizziz application. Well done to all the students on their engagement online and their positive attitude towards learning.

TAS Online

During Term 3 our TAS students have consistently engaged in various types of online lessons following the various subjects within the TAS learning area. For our junior students there has been not only a focus on typical course content surrounding the various banners of Technology, but also a combined effort from the TAS staff to attempt to build on literacy and numeracy capabilities of our students. Our students have also taken part in a number of wellbeing-oriented lessons as a means of maintaining stronger connections with their teachers that were built during face-to-face classes earlier in the year.

Our fantastic Timber, Multimedia and Design & Technology HSC students have had the challenging, and at times, seemingly impossible task of navigating their final submissions of their major projects. However, despite the challenges, they persevered in trying times and managed to successfully submit some very high-quality major works that they should definitely be proud of.

Ode To Joy

This term, our Year 7 students have been working hard and been learning about musical notes and the string family. They have been learning on identify musical patterns and how to write music. Our students have been engaging in practical lessons whilst learning from home by practicing “Ode to Joy” on a Virtual Piano. It is great to see our students practicing their musical abilities in the comforts of their own homes.

Pop Art

Year 8 have been learning about Pop Art during Term 3 and were encouraged to make a layered artwork inspired by a Pop Art theme (onomatopoeia, food, comics, animals, popular culture etc). To cater for online learning students were given flexibility in how they created their artwork! Options included but were not limited to digital art, collage, painting, drawing or using recycled materials!

English In Lockdown

During the second half of Term 3, all English classes in Years 7-10 completed an online assessment task.  Congratulations to the students who achieved 100% on their task: Rumaysa Alameddine (7E), Mia Su (7G), Danica Balanag (8G), Farahnaz Maqsoodi (8EN1), Sofia Baqaie (10EN3), Rose Dwikat (10EN3), Serene Hamad (10EN3), Samuel Malafu (10EN3), Ali Naaman (10EN3), Tara Rezaiy (10EN3), Iesha Rifai (10EN3), Yusef Tarabiya (10EN3) and Josephine Wiredu (10EN3).

The English teachers are working hard to develop interesting and fun online lessons to keep students motivated and engaged with their learning.  Many classes are regularly playing Kahoot.  The teacher sets up a Zoom call and shares their screen; the students then log into the Zoom call and in the Kahoot App enter the Game Pin. Playing while in a Zoom call allows the students to interact just as they would in the classroom – a great way to support their emotional and social wellbeing.  The healthy, light-hearted competition between the students motivates them to achieve to the best of their ability in the Kahoot Quizzes.

'Congratulations to Youssef Jebara of 8EN1 who wins almost every time his class plays!'

Learning French Online

During lockdown, students in the LOTE classes continued to engage in collaborative and fun-filled learning via Zoom lessons. Students immersed themselves in interactive games and competed against each other to broaden their knowledge in French during these sessions. While completing the set learning activities, students have had opportunities to choose the tasks that they felt comfortable with. This has been a great way of maintaining high spirits and positive connections during online learning.

Punctual Year 12 Science Students

With all the current disruptions to teaching and learning, it remains important for students to maintain a regular daily structure which can be difficult. A distraction can be only a click or a tap away. By being punctual and prepared for their online trial HSC Assessment Tasks in biology chemistry, investigating science and physics, the Year 12 science students have demonstrated their commitment and dedication to their studies during this challenging time. They have set an example for their fellow students.
