Mathematics

Students across Years 7-9 have been applying their mathematical knowledge to solving pattern and algebra problems.

Students have been thoroughly engaged, learning new subject specific vocabulary including; variable, like term, expression and co-efficient.

At Scoresby Secondary College we strongly believe in the growth mindset and believe all students can progress their learning. Teachers have been delivering lessons at the students point of need excelling learning growth. We look forward to the end of the term to see the exceptional learning growth in the post-test.

Just before lockdown happened students were introduced to their Measurement assignment in Year 7 and Year 8.  Unfortunately Covid-19 has stalled the progress of the assignment for many students due to not being able to go to the shops. Further updates will come regarding the due date, however all students will be given an extension once shops re-open.

Can you solve this puzzle?

A mad scientist insists he knows how many spiders and how many beetles he has in his special enclosure simply by knowing the total number of legs and bodies. If the floor sensor of the enclosure tells him that there are 174 legs and the infra-red detector indicates that there are 26 bodies, how many spiders and how many beetles are there in the enclosure?
