Junior Humanities in Remote Learning
Year 7
Our Year 7 students have completed a research assignment on a chosen aspect of life in Ancient Greece. Students could research Greek God and Goddesses, War and Conflict or the Ancient Olympics. Students did a wonderful job of working in pairs during remote learning and presenting their findings in interesting and engaging PowerPoint presentations.
We will now begin our unit studying Ancient China, where students will discover what life was like and learn about the inventions developed during this time that we still use today.
Year 8
Year 8 students conducted a research assignment on the Black Death, which is very relevant considering the circumstances we find ourselves in today.
Students researched the types of plague that existed and how the plague was spread from person to person and place to place. They also had to discuss the short and long term impacts of the Black Death.
It is fascinating to think that future generations will be learning all about the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently experiencing. We really are living through a significant time in our history.
Year 9
Year 9 have been learning all about the beginning of World War 1.
Students have been discovering the causes of the war, the conditions in Europe at the turn of the century and the event that many consider to be the trigger for World War 1, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
They were tasked with writing a newspaper article about the assassination, I have included a wonderful example, written by Lea Rose Briones.
We are now learning about how Australia became involved in the war and what life was like for soldiers the living and fighting in the trenches of the Western Front.

VCE Business Management
Our Year 11 Business Management class is currently studying the marketing and public relations strategies businesses use to reach their objectives, including increasing sales, profit and market share. The students have been considering factors such as price, promotion techniques, product features, packaging and business image. The students have been busy completing their assessment tasks applying their knowledge and skills to a real product of their choice and developing a marketing campaign for their own mock product to clearly and effectively target their product to a group of consumers.
For Year 12 Business Management classes they have been studying change management in businesses.
It is important for managers to know where they want a business to be positioned for the future before implementing a variety of strategies to bring about the desired change. The students have been considering the importance of leadership in change management, how leaders can inspire change and the effect change can have on the stakeholders in a business. The students have been applying their knowledge and skills to the case study of Coles’ automated online grocery system that will be fully implemented by 2023.
Coles are developing this change in Australia with the help of the British company Ocado: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DKrcpa8Z_E
